Author Stephen King has defended newly elected Zohran Mamdani as he continues to face criticism on social media.
Zohran Mamdani’s defeat over Andrew Cuomo and Curtis Sliwa in the New York mayoral election has certainly caused a stir.
While Mamdani had a rather decisive win over his opponents, securing 50.4 cent of the vote over Cuomo’s 41.6 percent and Sliwa’s 7 percent, the 34-year-old has faced considerable criticism.
Some conservative officials have dabbled in potentially racist rhetoric by likening his appointment to the role as dangerous as the fateful terrorist attacks on the city in 2001.

Other people on social media have also made similar comments due to Mamdani being a Muslim.
Author Stephen King addressed one racist comment criticizing Mamdani and those who voted for him after he was elected as mayor of New York.
The individual shared an image of the twin towers following the 9/11 terrorist attack and added a caption attempting to connect it to Mamdani and his faith.

The caption read: “How the hell does the city that experienced the biggest Islamic terrorist attack in history vote for a Muslim mayor?”
King pointed out a key point when he replied: “Um, he didn’t do it. He was 10 at the time.”
Mamdani was born in October 1991, and is 34 years old at the time of writing. He was a few weeks from turning 10 when the September 1st attacks happened in 2001.
Other people on King’s post also condemned the post for their comments, calling them ‘sickening’ and ‘nonsense’.
One user wrote: “And the Oklahoma City bomber was a supposed devout Christian, and people continue to elect Christian...one statement as stupid as the other.”
Another wrote: “The amount of people who share the images of my cousin and thousands of others getting murdered for scare tactics and political points is sickening. No matter the party, it should never be shared.”
A third wrote: “It’s like saying how can a black person be friends with a white person cause their ancestors were racists, totally makes no sense.”
Another added: “I couldn’t care less that he’s Muslim —and true, he had nothing to do with it! Let’s see what he does as Mayor.”

While another simply commented: “People vote on his record and policies, not on bigoted generalizations.”
In his acceptance speech, after being elected, Mamdani inferred he was aware of the racist talking points that had continued to follow his campaign.
Speaking to his supporters, he said: “I am Muslim. I am a Democratic Socialist, and most damning of all, I refuse to apologize for any of this.
“And yet, if tonight teaches us anything it is that convention has held us back.
“We have bowed at the alter of caution and we have paid a mighty price. Too many working people cannot recognize themselves in our party.
“Too many among us have turned to the right for answers for why they have bene left behind.
“We will leave mediocrity in our past, no longer will we have to open a history book for proof that Democrats can dare to be great.”
