One object in the Oval Office caught the particular attention of Zohran Mamdani.

The mayor-elect of New York City visited president Trump at the Oval Office after a mayoral campaign that began with him asking voters why they voted for Trump.

Given that Trump and Mamdani have made no secret of their differences in the past, with Trump labelling Mamdani a 'communist' while Mamdani used his victory speech to throw down the gauntlet to the president, their first meeting since Mamdani's win surprised a lot of people.

The meeting ended up with Trump appearing open and even friendly towards Mamdani, despite previously threatening to withdraw federal funding from New York if he won.

For his part, Mamdani appeared affable towards the president, with Trump even saying he was fine with Mamdani calling him a 'fascist' in response to a question from the press.

Mamdani has since shared one unusual object in the Oval Office which caught his attention during the visit.

The White House is filled with historical artefacts, but it wasn't a historical object which caught the attention of New York City's new mayor. It was a dossier with an unusual title that had been left in the office.

No, it wasn't 'aliens are real' or 'how we faked the moon landings', but it was something that would certainly raise eyebrows.

Mamdani appeared on The Adam Friedland Show on Wednesday, where he was asked if there was anything unusual in the Oval Office. He replied that there was the dossier which had the title 'UFC at the White House'.

For those that don't know, that's mixed martial arts, and when Mamdani had a quick flick through he found that it did indeed appear to be plans for the president to host a UFC fight at the White House.

But this wasn't Trump attempting an unorthodox method of resolving the government shutdown - the president has in fact spoken about plans to stage UFC fights on the White House South Lawn to mark the 250th anniversary of the USA.

"I was just flipping through that,” Mamdani said, revealing that it contained some mock ups of the octagon-shaped arena where the fights would be held.

When Friedland asked Mamdani if he wanted to go to the fight, Mamdani laughed and said: "No!"

UFC President and CEO Dana White said that around 5,000 could watch the fight directly, while large screen could relay it to a wider audience in a park of around 85,000.
