Mystery solved after strange 'UFO' lights spotted in San Diego sky

The dancing lights in the sky were thought to be UFOs, but now their true identity has been revealed

There could be any number of explanations when a UFO appears ominously in the night sky - but this has to be one of the more obvious ones.

People in San Diego were left puzzled on the evening of 5 November when mysterious lights appeared in the sky over the city.

However, it's certainly a far cry from the more rural settings of many UFO encounters.

The sky will be much busier over a city like San Diego, and seeing lights above the city is probably less unusual than in the middle of the nowhere.

All this indicates that, for something to be noteworthy above a city sky, it would have to be very strange indeed.

And that's just what happened on Sunday (5 November) when strange lights appeared above the city - with some left asking 'what is that?'.

But now, the cause of the unusual lights has been explained - and confirmed.

And, sorry to disappoint, but it was not, in fact, the presence of extraterrestrials above the California city.

There were several mysterious lights in the sky.

In fact, quite a few people were witness to the 'UFOs', who were actually making landfall right in the middle of San Diego, no less.

Not only that, but those responsible actually warned the city ahead of time, saying that any mysterious sightings would be 'probably us'.

So who were they?

Well, they were actually the Leap Frogs, a parachute team for the US Navy who stage jumps at events across the country.

The team, which is made up of SEALS, SWCC, EOD, and PRs, posted to X - formerly Twitter - ahead of the jump to explain the situation.

The 'UFOs' were actually the US Navy Leap Frogs.

They wrote: "If you see UFOs in the San Diego sky tonight around 6:20 p.m., it's probably us."

But why were they landing in the first place?

Well, that was due to the game that was happening between the San Diego Wave FC and OL Reign, with a semifinal playoff match taking place in the National Women’s Soccer League at the Snapdragon Stadium.

In their post, the US Navy Leapfrogs said that any sightings in the night sky was them 'commuting to the San Diego Wave FC game'.

The Leap Frogs confirmed it was them.

That's one hell of a commute to work!

The team jumped into the stadium directly, carrying flares with them for added drama.

So, you can see why that would look strange even in the brightly lit and busy city sky.

That being said, if I were an extraterrestrial looking to sneak into the city, that would be the perfect cover.
