Map shows all the US states where you're allegedly most likely to be cheated on

Apparently, we're in a cheating 'epidemic' too

A map has revealed where in the US you're most likely to be cheated on by a partner.

Being unfaithful in a relationship can have dire consequences, from tearing families apart, divorce and even lasting trauma for the betrayed party in the affair. Despite this, cheating is surprisingly common - and one poll has even gone so far as to suggest the US is currently in the midst of an infidelity epidemic.

The American Survey Center found young men and young women are struggling to date and maintain relationships which they concluded boils down to deeply polarizing political beliefs across the country since President Donald Trump reclaimed the helm for a second term in January.

Now, a new survey has revealed that the vast majority of us have been cheated on at some point, though in some states the disloyalty is staggeringly high compared to others.

Researchers from NapLap quizzed more than 1,600 American citizens to map out where adultery appeared the norm and by contrast, where loyalty still stands strong.

Across the US, the data found an eye-watering 85 percent of people have been cheated on, though only 34 percent confessed to doing the deed themselves.

In the survey of 1,649 Americans, respondents were asked: "Have you ever cheated on a significant other?", "Have you ever been cheated on by a significant other?," and "In which state do you live?"

The results make for some stark contrasts across the state lines, with North Carolina, Kentucky, Alaska, North Dakota and Delaware considered the worst of the worst, with the most people either having experienced or engaged in infidelity.

The worst states for cheating

Taking the crown as the top cheating zone, 44 percent of people from North Carolina admitted to having cheating compared to 94 percent who said they have been cheated on by a loved one within the state.

Yet while just 35 percent of people in Kentucky confessed to cheating, apparently almost everyone (97 percent) has been betrayed by a partner in the Bluegrass state, earning it a joint first on the 'bad list'.

Similarly, hardly anyone (26 percent) owned up in Alaska, versus 97 percent of respondents who said their partner had been unfaithful, earning The Last Frontier first place, too.

In 4th came North Dakota, Delaware in 5th, Michigan in 6th, Louisiana (7th), Maine (8th) and in joint 9th and 10th places, Hawaii and South Carolina.

Interestingly, and ironically, respondents from the Aloha State were the most honest about their treachery, with a whopping 80 percent professing to cheating - which was way more than any other state. (Only Louisiana cheaters came close at 62 percent.)

As for South Carolina, just 25 percent in the Palmetto State came clean about their double-dealing - against 91 percent who said they had been cheated on.

Another interesting result, considering it has the lowest population of all the US states, was Wyoming, with 85 percent reporting being cheated on while 50 percent of respondents divulged their adulterous history.

The most loyal states when it comes to cheating

At the other end of the spectrum, it's good news if you're in Connecticut, Indiana, Massachusetts, Vermont and New Jersey as fewer people here say they have experienced or engaged in cheating.

You're probably safe if you're in Idaho, Illinois, Nebraska, Alabama and Kansas too, all of which formed the top 10 states where both cheaters and people who have been cheated on seem to live.
