A body language expert has weighed in after footage of Donald Trump and First Lady Melania on board a helicopter left people wondering what the couple were talking about.
The footage of Trump and Melania has been shared on X, formerly Twitter, after being filmed as they returned from the United Nations General Assembly in New York on Wednesday (September 24).
The couple were still in their Marine One helicopter when they were caught on camera, but they could be seen through the window caught in an exchange, which left one viewer wondering if Trump was 'scolding' his wife as he pointed a finger at her.
Of course, without actual insight to the conversation, we have no idea what the couple were discussing, and body language expert Beth Dawson has noted that 'Trump is well known for the way he uses his body to reinforce his words'.

Commenting on the interaction between Trump and Melania, Beth explained: "Leaning forward, pointing a finger, or fist pumping his hand in victory, these are all hallmarks of his physical style, tools that he uses to underline his authority and make his presence felt. In this exchange with Melania, familiar movements are on full display: he leans in, finger extended, his hand acting as a forceful illustrator of his speech, as he points at her.”
Beth noted that pointing is 'rarely seen as a gesture of affection' and can often carry connotations of 'accusation, instruction, or command' - however, she noted: "As ever with body language, context is everything."
"It might appear aggressive to outsiders but we know that these dominance signals are part of Trump’s baseline behavior and he may be reinforcing his ideas, as opposed to chastising Melania," Beth added.

Whatever the pair were discussing, Beth noted that Melania 'meets [Trump's] eye steadily', adding: "She may not mirror his exact stance, but she is matching his energy and is active, expressive, and fully engaged."

In sharing her thoughts, Beth stressed that body language analysis can carry the risk of over-interpretation, adding: "A single gesture cannot tell the full story of a relationship but it can give us insights into the power dynamic and [suggests] Melania is on an equal footing.
"Trump uses expansive, emphatic movements, while Melania, though more contained, does not disengage. She matches him, not by mirroring his posture, but by meeting his energy with her own expressive hand movements and unwavering eye contact.”
