Donald Trump has faced a backlash after his claims on what people want in regards to time off from work for federal holidays.

As many people are saved from having to go into work because of Juneteenth, Donald Trump took to social media to complain about the amount of federal holidays.

Juneteenth is a long standing holiday however was only made a federal holiday in 2021 when former president Joe Biden signed the Juneteenth National Independence Day Act into law.

The holiday is a celebration that dates back as far as 1866 and was first celebrated in Texas. It is celebrated on June 19 to commemorate the emancipation of enslaved people in the US.

For many workers this becoming a federal holiday was a welcomed change, allowing them more time away from work and to spend with friends and family.

However, Trump argued that the workers don’t actually want this.

Writing on Truth Social, Trump wrote: “Too many non-working holidays in America. It is costing our Country $Billions of Dollars to keep all of these businesses closed.

“The workers don’t want it either! Soon we’ll end up having a holiday for every once working day of the year. It must change if we are going to, Make America Great Again.”

Trump’s comments resulted in many critical of his claims with some going as far as to call him a hypocrite.

One Twitter user wrote: “The guy who golfs more than once every 5 days on his private golf course, costing taxpayers millions, wants you to have fewer days off.”

The website Trump Golf Tracker, which does what it says on the tin, claims Trump has played golf on 33 of the 151 days he has been in office.

Another simply wrote: “Hypocrite.”

A third commented: “And he doesn’t even make complete sense per usual. WTF is 'end up having a holiday for every once working day'?

“And the irony, that he hasn’t worked a day in his life like most of us, the working class, and emphatically says ‘workers don’t want it either’.”

With another adding: “This is the system of extraction - squeeze the workers to increase profits for billionaires and corporations. If you think Trump has your back, think again!”

While another disagreed and commented: “Huh, Trump I’m gonna have to disagree about the workers. We look forward to any day off paid, or if you work on a holiday it’s doubly pay at some places. It's a break away from the labor camp and our coworkers to spend time with family and reset.”
