The US has issued a new travel warning for an unexpected neighboring country.
It's said that a record number of Americans plan on going on summer vacation this year, with 44 percent expressing their plans to travel (an increase from last year, per CBS News).
With this in mind, authorities have issued a handful of warnings to those packing their suitcases.

One place that travelers have been warned about is Mexico, a country which reportedly poses a kidnapping risk.
People planning on visiting the country have been urged to be vigilant when using dating apps there, as it's said that kidnappers are using them to find victims.
Now, another neighboring country that's a popular vacation spot for Americans has been hit with a travel warning - that being Canada.

Earlier this week, the State Department issued a Level 1 travel advisory for Canada, which is the lowest advisory level for safety and security risks.
The department's website says of this risk level: "There is some risk in any international travel, and conditions in other countries may differ from those in the United States."
It's believed the advisory is in regard to Canada's wildfire season.
Noting this, the alert states: "In Canada, wildfires are common in forested and grassland regions from May to September. In 2024, Canada was affected by record-breaking wildfires affecting all 13 provinces and territories.

"We urge U.S. citizens visiting or living in Canada to be aware of wildfire conditions in their area and follow guidance from local authorities. Please see the list of resources and emergency services below to help prepare for wildfire season in Canada."

Additionally, American citizens traveling to Canada over the summer have been advised to do the following:
- They must enroll in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) to receive alerts and messages from the U.S. Embassy that can assist them during emergencies
- They should visit the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's page for the latest Travel Health Information related to their departure from and arrival to the US
- They should be prepared for emergency situations
- They must review the Country Security Report for Canada
As well as travel warnings, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has been forced to issue its own caution in recent days regarding traveler identification.

Taking to social media, TSA posted on June 4: "We love hotdogs & rotisserie chickens as much as the next person but please stop telling people their Costco card counts as a REAL ID because it absolutely does not."
