People have one question after hiker shows how they risk their life on mountain edge

Social media users were left bemused after realizing what the expected route was for a mountain in Switzerland.

Social media users have been struck with fear and confusion after seeing a terrifying route along a sheer cliff face in Switzerland.

I have never had such a strong fear of falling to my death while also sat down comfortably on stable ground.

Reddit users seem to be feeling the exact same way after a video shared on the site showed the route followed by hikers and mountaineers in Interlaken, Switzerland.

The clip was captioned: “Insane Breathtaking Cliff Hiking in Interlaken, Switzerland. Will you do this? Every step matters.”

The post has already been upvoted 3,000 times since being posted on Tuesday (November 28).

The clip shows hikers stepping on small pieces of rebar steps that have been installed on the side of the mountain.

That isn’t the most terrifying thing, however, the massive drop is what is the most haunting thing about the clip.

I now can empathize a little bit more with Wile Coyote’s fear before he plummets into the gorges below.

The video appears to have been filmed on a via ferrata route in the village of Murren - via ferrata being a form of scrambling where adventurers scale cliffs with the help of steel cables, ladders, rungs and other fixed anchors.

Reddit users were simply bemused about the path however and simply asked how any adventurers had the bravery to attempt the trek.

“I’ll question anyone’s judgement who does this,” one user wrote.

“Why? Just why? I get antsy just watching it. Surely there is a better way to the top, or another mountain that would just be easier,” another added.

However, some other social media users praised the climbers for their bravery. Others even adding that in via ferrata, a person is strapped into a cable to ensure that a misstep doesn’t result in death.

“Switzerland is so beautiful and majestic, that the people there grew tired of just being there said 'Why don’t we hike those mountains and risk our lives instead of enjoying what we already have'. People, you so crazy,” one user joked.

“Did this a couple months back. Was good fun and not really that scary. There was an 83yo bloke doing it too,” another commented.

“No problem, specially since you wear a harness the whole time that prevents you from falling,” a third added.

Harness or not, I’m not sure I'll be joining them, regardless of the stunning view.
