A man was baffled after he spotted a dog barking and walking around the top of the Great Pyramid of Giza.

Alex Lang was flying his motored paraglider around the Great Pyramid in Egypt when he saw something odd in the distance.

Intrigued, the adventurer moved in for a closer look.

When he was finally able to make out the mysterious figure, it was the last thing he was expecting- a dog that had somehow made its way to the apex of the 455ft structure to bark at 'birds’.

Lang’s clip went viral after it was shared by Marshall Mosher, an adventure athlete, and has racked up a whopping 592,300 likes on Instagram.

Viewers were impressed by the dog but were all left with the same question after watching the video: how did it get up there?

One person said: "I wonder how long it took him. I want him to come down and get some water.”

Another commented: “No way a dog can climb the huge blocks alone.”

One joked: “Not a dog. That is the Egyptian God Anubis. He is considered the guide of the dead in the afterlife and the protector of the tombs. That's why it is over the pyramid”.

Another Instagram user commented: “Must’ve heard they worshipped cats. We’ll see about that now.”

Built from 2580-2565 BC during the reign of Pharaoh Khufu, the Great Pyramid stands as the largest of the three pyramids in Giza.

One of the wonders of the ancient world, the structure has mystified archaeologists for centuries, and continues to draw in millions of tourists every year.

However, while some might like to follow in the footsteps of the dog, humans are banned from climbing to the top. Offenders could face up to three years in prison, and in 2016, a teenager was banned from visiting Egypt again after making the ascent.

The now-viral video was also shared by Colin Rugg, who has 1.5 million followers on X, formerly Twitter, where it has been liked 10,000 times.

Rugg said: “Dog spotted hanging out on the top of the Great Pyramid of Giza in Egypt.

“The man who filmed the incident from his powered paraglider says the dog was barking at birds.

“The Great Pyramid of Giza is a whopping 450 feet tall meaning the dog had to take a long hike to the top.”

One person commented: “Sometimes you just gotta climb the highest hill and bark at some birds.”

Another joked: “That is his pyramid now. He conquered it.”

“That dog has lived a life most of us can only dream of," added a third.
