Kamala Harris has sparked an unlikely debate online over the use of wired earphones, after telling a talk show host that she only ever wears them for an important reason.
Remember the days when all we had were wired earphones and a variety of headphones?
God forbid you ever left them in your bag or pocket and reached in to find that they’d tangled themselves to the point where it would take a skilled set of hands to unravel them.
But then came the technological revolution which brought us wireless everything.

No longer did we have to wear those annoying things around our necks, and working out, running, moving around, became that much easier to do when listening to music.
Anyway, it seems like while we were all celebrating about not having to use wired earphones anymore, former presidential candidate, Kamala Harris wasn’t willing to get with the times.
But why?

When appearing on Stephen Colbert’s late night talk show, she explained why she’s sticking with wired earphones and she’s unlikely to change her mind.
According to her, it’s all about protecting her privacy.
Harris claimed that wired earphones are much safer than wireless, making it the ideal choice for those who don’t want their conversations listened in on.
She made the admission after an image of herself dressed in sweats while wearing wired earphones to make over 100 calls one day as vice president was shown.

Stating she gets made fun of for her love of the wired buds, she said it’s just what she wears because of their secure properties.
"I know I've been teased about this, but I like these kinds of earpods that have the thing [she points to the wire] because I served on the Senate Intelligence Committee," she said.
"I have been in classified briefings, and I'm telling you, don't be on the train using your earpods thinking somebody can't listen to your conversation."
She added: "I'm just telling you that it's a little more secure."

This isn't the first time she's spoken about her preference for wired earphones.

Back in 2021, Harris said she prefers them as she believes Bluetooth headphones pose a 'security risk', as per Newsweek.
But it doesn’t mean everyone agrees.

In the comments of a video posted of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, people didn’t know how to feel about her suggestion to wear wired earphones.
Someone said: "It may be true. But last time I checked, they actually have a dedicated security chip. Versus the ones that have wires don’t."
Another said, confused: "Did this make any sense to anyone else?"
While a third argued: "The bluetooth connection on airpods is encrypted."
