There's so much you can do with a dollop of mayonnaise, and as it’s one of the most favored condiments, it seemed nothing could put people off it… until now.

Why, oh why, do videos pop out of nowhere and show us all how things are made?

First, it was chicken nuggets, then it was crab sticks… and now it’s mayo.

Yes, the beloved sauce we drizzle over our fries, sandwiches and salads.

Apparently not, because ever since a video showing how mayo is actually made was shared, some social media users have sworn off the sauce entirely.

Sadly, once people found out the ingredients that go into it, and how it’s all mashed together to create the gloopy white stuff we all know and love, they decided it just wasn’t worth the hassle.

It all began when a TikTok user (@agentgp1978) posted a clip of a person mixing the key ingredients of mayo.

The post showed viewers how to make their own mayonnaise by simply blending up the ingredients, typically including at least eggs, oil, mustard and vinegar.

While the end result might be tasty, seeing the process unfold has sparked mixed reactions.

Some viewers were accepting and even tempted by the look of the sauce coming together, with one person writing: “Why not use Coconut oil! That would make the home made mayo the bomb!”

Another added: “An egg and oil. That's it. Use a good extra virgin olive oil, and you'll never want to buy it from a store again.”

Other viewers, however, weren't so enamoured with the process.

One claimed: “I will never see mayonnaise the same.”

Someone else commented: “I can still remember how I felt so betrayed the day I learned how mayonnaise is actually made.”

When the video made its way to Twitter, that’s where the fun really began.

One user declared: “I have stopped using mayonnaise.”

A second shared: “There is a reason I don’t eat mayo anymore - it is oil with egg if you lucky! In the stores has way many more artificial ingredients. I make my own ketchup too and dips - fresh fruit based ones are delicious and healthy.”

While a third penned: “You keep that to yourself I don't need to know about that.”

But still, while the process might not be the most appetizing thing in the world, many viewers made clear they'd still be happy to tuck into the sauce once all the ingredients had come together.

“When I found out mayo was nothing but eggs & oil... It didn’t stop me from making one sandwich,” one viewer said.

I'll probably still enjoy mayo when I have it, but I think I'll leave making it to the professionals for now - I don't need to be messing around with eggs and blenders. I'd rather switch to tomato sauce.
