Elon Musk has made a name for himself when it comes to building things and up next on the Tesla founder's list is an entire town.

The Twitter CEO, 51, recently purchased a 3,500-acre plot of land about 35 miles outside of Austin, Texas, and is planning to transform it into his own town.

The plot, which is currently pasture and farmland, will entirely be under Musk's control when it's turned into a town, and as its creator, he will be able to set some rules and regulations (within reason, of course, but we can only assume that he'll throw in complimentary Twitter Blue).

Musk said that he hopes to transform the area into a 'sort of Texas utopia along the Colorado River'.

The reason he chose the location is that it's adjacent to Boring and SpaceX facilities which are in the process of being built.

It is Musk's plan to house his workers in the town, which apparently already contains a few modular homes and signs which read 'welcome, snailbrook, tx, est. 2021'.

What's snailbrook? We hear you ask. Well, it's the name of Boring's mascot.

Musk reportedly plans to rent out the homes in the town for less than their market value, so it sounds like a potentially sweet deal for anyone hoping to work at the new facilities.

According to one ad, a two to three-bedroomed home will set Musk's employees back just $800 when other comparable homes in the area are being rented for $2,200.

The new town will have everything you'd expect from any other town, and this reportedly includes a school - so you won't need to worry about a long commute for the sake of your kids' education.

For an area in Texas to be incorporated, it needs to have a minimum of 201 residents and a report has found that there are plans for 110 homes to be built by the Tesla founder.

But it's also been reported that he could own a lot more than this 3,500-acre plot, with The Journal claiming that it could be as much as 6,000 acres in the area - so there's plenty of room for an even bigger town (or towns).

Musk chose to set up business in Texas after getting sick of California, which he described as being a state filled with 'overregulation, overlitigation, over taxation'.

It turns out that he won't even be the first billionaire to own his own Texas town, either, so maybe he's been inspired by people who've gone before him.

This is because back in 2021 Mark Cuban - the owner of the Dallas Mavericks - bought the town of Mustang for an undisclosed sum.
