Your wedding day is suppose to be the most memorable moment of your life - and it definitely was for one groom who appeared to have a little too much fun before getting to the altar.

A video has been shared showing the bizarre moment a drunk groom confused his sister-in-law for his bride at the altar and received one hell of a slap in response.

Take a look at the cringe-worthy moment below:

The Hindu wedding took place on 21st June in Bihar, east India, with a traditional Varmala ceremony, which is usually when the couple meet for the first time.

The procession includes the act of exchanging garlands by hanging these around your future partner's neck.

In the clip, the bride and groom can be seen standing at the colourful altar, with a third woman, believed to the bride's sister, standing to the right.

A man wearing a suit stands to the left, appearing to be holding the groom upright as he struggles to keep his composure due to being so ‘drunk’.

The man's future wife places a garland over his head and then it's his turn.

But in a swift movement, the groom flings the flowers around a woman's neck, believing it's his bride – when in fact, it is his sister-in-law.

The sister-in-law did not take this well at all as she began screaming at the groom before slapping him in the face and striking the man on the head repeatedly.

As this is all happening, the man in the suit is seen holding the groom up to prevent him from falling.

The groom then takes the flowers off his sister-in-law, seemingly preparing to put them on the bride, who stands silently in the background not looking impressed at all.

Unfortunately, this groom isn't the first and won't be the last to suffer an embarrassing moment at a wedding.

In fact, we previously reported on a wedding guest who got so intoxicated, she ended up soiling herself - causing a smell so bad everyone evacuated.

The story was originally revealed on a Facebook wedding shaming group, where a woman named Ashlee described the ‘gorgeous wedding’ with its ‘beautiful ceremony’.

She explained how the ceremony was followed by a pre-reception cocktail hour with free beer and wine, and went on to say how one mum, who she called ‘Liz’, decided to take advantage of the free drinks and was ‘hammering down red wine like no one’s business’.

The guest said there were only around 50 or 60 other people there so Liz’s drinking didn’t go unnoticed.

The irresistible lure of free drinks meant Liz was apparently ‘plastered’ by the time the speeches took place and when it came to dancing she was described as ‘a rhino with cannonballs of red wine’.

At one point she tried to dance with the bride, and almost spilled wine on her very expensive white dress.

But the evening only got worst for the guest when Ashlee explained: "She got so drunk that she s**t herself on the dance floor and everyone evacuated it because it smelled so bad. Complete wedding guest failure."

Well, that's certainly one way to make a wedding memorable!
