An attorney from Michigan was sentenced to decades behind bars after being found to have written himself into his client's will and hiring a hitman to kill him.

Dan “Hutch” Hutchinson, from Michigan, was just 47-years-old when he met his untimely death in June 2022, after he'd hired Marco Bisbikis, 39, to be his lawyer.

In the weeks before Dan was killed, he and his wife, Marisa Hutchinson, drafted up their will and 'trusted that [Bisbikis] knew [their] wishes', Marisa testified in court.

But after the couple entrusted Bisbikis with their will, he wrote himself into the document with the goal of obtaining millions of dollars held in their trust.

Roy Larry, 46, was then paid to kill Dan and Marisa.

On June 1, 2022, Dan had just left his jewelry store when Larry rode up next to his SUV on an electric bike.

He fired 14 rounds into the SUV, killing Dan in the process. Miraculously, Marisa, who was also in the vehicle, survived the attack.

Larry was quickly arrested, and when the truth came to light, he and Bisbikis were charged and found guilty of first-degree premeditated murder, conspiracy to commit first-degree premeditated murder, assault with intent to murder, and two counts of felony firearm.

Investigators claimed Bisbikis worked with Larry and a number of other men to carry out the plot, including Darnell Larry, Angelo Raptoplous, and Philip Sumpter.

Darnell Larry claimed he was the one originally paid by Bisbikis to kill the couple, but he paid Roy Larry to do it instead.

During the trial, Marisa spoke about the lucrative business she and her husband had, and how it had made $30 million in 2021.

“Business was through the roof. It was hard to keep up,” she testified. “People had a lot of money during the pandemic — and they were itching to spend it.”

After Larry and Bisbikis were convicted, Oakland County Prosecutor Karen McDonald said: “The evidence revealed an elaborate and shocking sequence of events that ultimately led to the murder of Dan Hutchison and the attempted murder of Marisa Hutchinson...

“This was a horrible and tragic crime and I hope that today’s verdict brings some peace to the family and loved ones of Dan Hutchinson.”

Both Bisbikis and Larry have claimed they were wrongfully convicted, with the lawyer claiming he would be 'back' to 'prove [his] innocence'.

"I feel for you guys. I do miss Daniel Hutchinson as well," Bisbikis said. "He was a good friend of mine and a client. I didn't have anything to do with his murder. I stand on that."

In June 2024, two years after the killing, both men were sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for their involvements in Dan's death and the attempted murder of Marisa.

Darnell Larry and Raptoplous both accepted plea deals, while Sumpter's case is ongoing.
