Erika Kirk revealed the conversations she had with her husband before he started his campus touring and a warning she issued.
Charlie Kirk’s assassination, while he spoke at Utah Valley University, has sent reverberations through America.
Kirk’s wife, Erika, has recently spoken to The New York Times, about their relationship and her fears regarding the work her husband was doing.
She told the outlet Kirk was excited about beginning his tour across multiple US campuses and said the controversial commentator treated this like the Olympics and was very prepared for debates with young people.

She discussed what happened the evening before Kirk travelled to Utah, and highlighted a concern she had for her husband’s safety.
Kirk and his wife met for dinner in Phoenix with a friend who was a faith leader ultimately with the goal of praying together.

Erika Kirk noted that she and the friend were worried for Kirk, as he had repeatedly received death threats over the past year and had been traveling with a security team for months.

Over the dinner, Erika recalled that she asked her husband to start wearing a bulletproof vest, while the friend asked that he speak behind a bullet proof glass.
She said Charlie showed reluctance to do either, and replied ‘not yet’. He added that he felt confident in his team and that there would be additional security at the event.
During the interview, Erika admitted she had begun wondering if her husband had ‘surrendered to the prospect’ that Charlie could have his life cut short due to violence.
This is due to the fact she and those he had worked with had previously heard him discuss this as an actual possibility for him.

Erika was also meant to be with her husband at the event when he was shot, but plans changed, as her mother would be undergoing medical treatment in Phoenix the same day. She recalled that Charlie told her, ‘home needs you’ and said they had organized for her to join on the next leg of the tour, to Colorado State University.

Charlie Kirk’s funeral was held over the weekend on September 21 and Erika also gave insights to how she is feeling almost two weeks since her husband’s murder.
The FBI has currently arrested and charged 22-year-old Tyler Robinson from Utah who they believe is responsible for the murder.

Erika revealed that she has forgiven her husband’s murderer and said it was what Charlie would do.
Erika said: "That young man, that young man.
"On the cross, our savior said: 'Father, forgive them for they not know what they do'.
"That man, that young man, I forgive him. I forgive him because it was what Christ did, and it is what Charlie would do.

"The answer to hate is not hate. The answer we know from the gospel is love and always love, love for our enemies and love for those who persecute us."
