This video shows the heart-stopping moment a beauty queen pageant contestant was electrocuted by a microphone whilst on stage.

Andrea Granados Victor was competing for the Miss Sahuayo 2022 crown in the West Mexican state of Michoacán when the horrifying incident occurred on Sunday.

As the New York Post reports, the 22-year-old approached a microphone stand on stage to give an address to the audience, wearing a colorful traditional Mexican outfit covered in feathers.

However, upon grasping the microphone to speak, she found herself unable to pull back from it as the microphone seemingly became stuck to her hand.

As the crowd watched on, Andrea jolted and writhed in a fruitless attempt to release the malfunctioning microphone from her hand.

Despite her efforts to free herself, the contestant fell to the ground, as pageant workers rushed to her side and the MC exclaimed in Spanish, "She's being electrocuted. She's being electrocuted."

Watch the harrowing video below:

Thankfully, with aid from workers that came to her side, Andrea was able to remove the microphone and the wire from her hand, as she lay on her back.

With staff members by her side, the shocked model was helped to her feet and exited the stage, where she was presumably seen to by medical staff.

Despite suffering a burn to her hand, the fearless woman returned to the stage shortly after to complete her strut, to rapturous applause from the audience.

Making light of her ordeal, Andrea took to social media on Monday to share an update: "I came back recharged — literally.

"Thank God, everything is fine.

"I want to share with you that after undergoing some medical tests, I can say that I feel fine. Thank God, it did not go beyond a burn."

Andrea also thanked people for their well wishes after the incident.

A pageant commentator commended her resilience upon her return to the stage: "That’s dedication! That’s willpower! Well Andrea, you’re a winner. You’re a warrior like the people of Sahuayo.”

Despite the praise of the commentator and the admiration of the crowd, the model sadly did not win the crown.

But the plucky 22 year old did manage to secure a well deserved 'Miss Sympathy' award for the frightening incident and her remarkable comeback.

Although it's not clear what went wrong with the microphone, the Miss Sahuayo contest had reportedly been criticised for a lack of safety precautions that endangered contestants, according to The New York Post.
