Stevie Nicks thanks Taylor Swift for writing song that helped her grieve death of bandmate Christine McVie

The Fleetwood Mac icon thanked Taylor Swift for helping her mourn the loss of her best friend and bandmate Christine McVie

Stevie Nicks has thanked Taylor Swift for writing a song that helped her grieve the death of fellow Fleetwood Mac bandmate Christine McVie.

The 74-year-old music hall-of-famer took to the stage in Atlanta, Georgia, earlier this week (22 May) to thank the 'Anti-Hero' hit-maker for making her grieving process that little bit easier.

Nicks offered a heartfelt tribute to her late 'best friend' and thanked Swift, 33, for one particular song that perfectly encapsulated 'the sadness of how [she] feels'. Have a look at the touching tribute:

A track written by pop icon Swift, is helping Nicks, one part of one of the most influential rock bands of the 1970s, get through her mourning period after losing her bandmate and lifelong pal.

The song in question, 'You're On Your Own, Kid', prompted Nicks to issue a public thank you message to Swift.

She told the cheering crowd: "Thank you to Taylor Swift for doing this thing for me, and that is writing a song called 'You're On Your Own, Kid.'

"That is the sadness of how I feel," Nicks can be heard saying in crowd footage from Monday night's concert.

She continued: "As long as Chris was, even on the other side of the world. We didn’t have to talk on the phone, we really weren’t phone buddies.

"Then we would go back to Fleetwood Mac, and we would walk in and it would be like, 'Little sister, how are you?'"

Nicks told fans she and McVie 'never an argument in our entire 47 years'.

Nicks went on to tell the crowd it was 'like never a minute had passed' whenever they would reunite.

She also revealed the pair 'never an argument in our entire 47 years'.

"So, when it was the two of us," the 'Landslide' star resolved, 'the two of us were on our own, kids, we always were.

"And now, I’m having to learn to be on my own, kid, by myself. So, you help me to do that. Thank you."

McVie, a singer and keyboardist for the band, sadly passed away in November of last year at 79 years old following a 'short illness'.

The band shared an official statement on the news to their social media at the time: "She was truly one-of-a-kind, special and talented beyond measure.

"She was the best musician anyone could have in their band and the best friend anyone could have in their life. We were so lucky to have a life with her. Individually and together, we cherished Christine deeply and are thankful for the amazing memories we have. She will be so very missed."

Nicks also offered her own personal statement following McVie's death.

It read: "See you on the other side, my love," before calling her Fleetwood Mac bandmate 'my best friend in the whole world since the very first day of 1975'.
