Chappell Roan has publicly defended the NSFW outfit she wore to this year’s Grammys after the unique outfit divided the internet.
The 27-year-old got everyone talking as she took to the red carpet on Sunday evening in a sheer wine-red dress, believed to be designed by Thierry Mugler, with the top part of the outfit being connected to Roan's nipples.
Many fans were quick to applaud the singer for her outfit, which stayed true to her unique personality, with several taking to social media to praise her with comments such as: "Chapell Roan the woman that you are” and " you look so good there are no words sufficient enough to suffice.”
However, not everyone was quite so impressed, with some arguing that it was one step too far for such a high profile event.

“No offense but this is too nude for me for a public event,” wrote one user. Meanwhile a second questioned why the outfit wasn’t ‘considered public nudity’ as it exposed Roan’s breasts.

Less than 24 hours after showing off her outfit to the world, Roan herself addressed the daring look on social media.
Taking to Instagram on Monday afternoon, the singer wrote: “Giggling because I don’t even think this is THAT outrageous of an outfit. The look’s actually so awesome and weird. I recommend just exercising your free will it’s really fun and silly :D”
Sadly, Roan, who was nominated for two awards on the night, didn’t manage to scoop one of the coveted trophies – but she did thank everyone that voted for her all the same, as she added: “Thank you for having me @grammys and those who voted for me!!”
Roan had been in the running for Record of the Year with her iconic track ‘The Subway’, but she was pipped to the post by Kendrick Lamar with Sza, who took the win with their track ‘Luther’.
Roan had also been nominated for Best Solo Pop Performance, again with her track ‘The Subway’ but lost out to Lola Young and her track ‘Messy’.

Although she may not have scooped any of the coveted awards, it didn’t stop Roan from enjoying herself, or from oozing confidence throughout the night.
In fact, Roan appeared to be thriving in the limelight, according to one body language expert.
Speaking to UNILAD on behalf of Covers, Darren Stanton said: "Off the scale confidence from Chappell Roan. She puts her hands behind her back, which shows a clear confidence, and someone who feels comfortable in their body and not afraid to be photographed.
"Being pictured and in the limelight appears to act as a confidence boost to her. She’s outgoing and very brash, I’ve not seen levels like this in a very long time on a red carpet. She flashes a ‘chin thrust’ gesture, which is a clear sign of strength."
