One lucky fan, however, has taken to Reddit to share her excitement after she managed to score resale tickets for face value, adding: “hopefully more resellers start selling for [face value] so more fans have the opportunity to go”.

So, how exactly did she pull off this seemingly impossible feat?

“I was checking [Facebook Marketplace], she explained. "I met up [with] them in person to do the transfer."

“Omg you lucky duck!!!” said one fan, with another asking: “hoowwwww!?!?”

It's worth keeping in mind that experts don't recommend buying tickets from social media, instead advising to always purchase resale tickets through verified sites to avoid scams. So where to look? We've got the lowdown right here.

Is it safe to buy tickets via resale websites?

With so much resale action going on, experts have been warning fans to be careful if going down this route. "When it comes to a sought after event or concert, everyone is keen to get a good price," Sarah Lenette, financial crime specialist at Starling Bank, explains. "Online resales can be a thrifty way to do this, but they are also a great way for scammers to catch out customers who have their guard down.

To protect yourself, make sure you’re aware of the red flags. Remember that as much as you want to go to the concert, your money is really important, so think carefully before making any rash decisions."

Red flags include, but aren’t limited, to:

  • Very low prices: If the price is a lot lower than it would be if you were purchasing from an official retailer, make sure to double check that it's a verified source.
  • Tickets sold through social media: You will never know if tickets available on social media are legitimate and often, people are turned away from the event as a consequence of buying fake tickets. Scammers can also use hacked social media accounts to offer non-existent tickets online. So, even if you see a friend or family member selling a ticket, always be cautious. Scammers can hack into social media accounts to try and sell non-existent tickets.
  • Suspicious URLs: Some sophisticated fake websites may appear to be the site you’re intending to browse. Look out for any misspellings in the URL. It's also unusual for a retail website to use '.org' or '.net' domains.
  • Requests for bank transfer: Avoid paying by bank transfer, as it can be difficult for your bank to get your money back if something goes wrong.
