Fans of The Simpsons believe the beloved animated series predicted Stranger Things villain Vecna way back in 1998.

One TikTok user has made the unlikely connection after sharing a snippet from season nine episode 12, titled 'Bart Carny', which sees Homer and Bart befriend Cooder and Spud, a father and son duo working at the carnival that’s travelled to Springfield.

After Homer’s attempt to fix a game for Cooder fails miserably, he invites the pair to stay at the Simpsons' home out of guilt – and much to Marge's dismay.

    Watch the moment below:

Things go from bad to worse for the Simpsons when Cooder and Spud trick them out of their house to claim 742 Evergreen Terrace as their own.

But how does this relate to Stranger Things you ask? Well, soon after making himself at home in the Simpsons' residence, Spud tells Lisa how he can ‘unhinge’ his joints ‘all at once’.

Showcasing his unusual skill, Spud shares: "Hey, check this out, I can unhinge my joints all at once. Doing anything tonight blue eyes?"

Responding to a contorted Spud, Lisa simply says: "Ewww".

Fans have claimed The Simpsons have predicted another TV show.

Putting two and two together, fans of Stranger Things have now said how Spud’s bone-popping trick has an uncanny likeness to the way Vecna kills his victims, lifting them high into the air before every one of their joints is twisted out of shape by his telekinesis.

Leading the theory, TikTok user @jccampie shared the joint unhinging snippet and wrote across it, "The Duffer Brothers are sooooo good. They wrote Vecna into S9 Simpson" as Kate Bush’s hit 'Runnin' Up The Hill' played over.

He also captioned the post, "How will this play into season 5?"

The video has got a huge response since it was published on 16 July and had many claiming 'what haven’t The Simpsons predicted?'.

One wrote: "Is there anything The Simpsons hasn't predicted?"

"I swear the Simpsons creators are time travelers or something like whatever they predict it comes true,” another commented.

A third penned: “The Simpsons predicted everything".

"I watched that episode yesterday and I thought of vecna as well," a Stranger Things fan added.

It's not the first time the animated series and its writers have been accused of being modern-day prophets.

In fact, The Simpsons famously predicted Trump’s presidency, the Covid pandemic, the Metaverse, numerous celebrity deaths, and Lady Gaga’s Super Bowl performance.

Naturally, the show’s penchant for predictions has led to many fan theories, but in a 2021 interview show runner Al Jean said that the predictions were a case of throwing ‘enough darts’.

He told NME: "One of our writers, the guy whose episode predicted Donald Trump as president, said it best: ‘If you write 700 episodes, and you don’t predict anything, then you’re pretty bad.

"If you throw enough darts, you’re going to get some bullseyes."

Despite the unsettling coincidence, Jean maintains that the predictions are 'just educated guesses'.
