SpongeBob SquarePants 'Predicted' Crucial Scene In The Boys

One scene in the children's show bears an uncanny resemblance to a scene in The Boys

Fans of Amazon's The Boys have spotted an eerie similarity between an episode of SpongeBob SquarePants and a crucial scene in the first series of the action show.

You'd hope there weren't many crossovers between the current audience members of the children's show SpongeBob and the gruesome, graphic, 18-rated superhero series, but I suppose the fact people have spotted similarities is a testament to SpongeBob's memorable writing, living on in the now-grown-up fans of the show.

Well, that or fans of The Boys feel the need to cleanse their eyeballs with some colourful animation after watching the series.

However, one moment in SpongeBob only served to bring back the horrors of The Boys episode one, series one, so much so that some fans speculated it might have even 'predicted' the scene in The Boys.

The clip was shared on Twitter recently by a fan of both of the shows, and showed a bubble figure getting down on his knees with a bubble ring to pop the question - excuse the pun - to his bubble partner.

However, just as the bubble woman raised her hands in celebration and declared she would marry her transparent lover, a screaming SpongeBob ran straight through her and caused her to disappear right in front of the disappointed man's bubble eyes.

Though there aren't any bubble people in The Boys, the events of the scene are very similar to the encounter between Robin Ward, her boyfriend Hughie Campbell and A-train.

I'm sure fans of the show will know exactly what scene I'm talking about, but as it took place a few series ago, allow me to jog your memory with a - very graphic - clip:

It takes place as Robin and Hughie are walking through the streets, delightfully loved up and discussing the possibility of moving with one another, when all of a sudden Robin quite literally disappears before Hughie's eyes.

Rather than a fairly clean disappearance like the bubble woman in SpongeBob, Robin's death proves incredibly grotesque, with Hughie left holding her now-decapitated hands while the rest of her body disappears into a bloody, gooey mess.

The scene is a pivotal one in the series, ultimately leading to Hughie joining The Boys, so fans couldn't help but express their shock it shared such noticeable similarities to SpongeBob.

One fan wrote: "Holy sh*t, SpongeBob was A-Train the entire time!," while another commented: "SpongeBob predicting future shows."

Fans suggested Spongebob 'predicted' the boys.

After a tweet comparing the two went viral, the official Twitter account for The Boys backed the discovery by writing: "A-Train watches SpongeBob confirmed."

It's probably not very likely fans will see many more comparisons between The Boys and SpongeBob, but if it's happened once, who's to say it wouldn't happen again.
