Ryan Gosling's Oscars performance has people begging for sequel to cult classic

Following Ryan Gosling's Oscar performance of I'm Just Ken, people are begging for a sequel to another of his films

It is undeniable for anyone that watched The Oscars last night: Ryan Gosling’s ‘I’m Just Ken’ performance stole the show.

Amid boring Jimmy Kimmel jokes and the delay to proceedings causing the show to start later than expected, the actor’s performance was a much needed burst of energy.

Performing his hit song from Barbie the actor showed off his chops, with a performance so good so good Best Actress winner Emma Stone broke her dress in the process of dancing alongside her former La La Land co-star.

His charismatic energy has had another knock on effect though, with fans online calling for it to inspired a sequel to a cult classic Gosling starred in.

Whilst Ryan Gosling’s comedic streak has gone a bit quiet from Crazy Stupid Love up until Barbie, many point to this 2016 comedy as his funniest performance if all time.

The film is The Nice Guys, a 70s action-comedy starring Ryan Gosling as private detective Holland March.

Whilst the film was a relative flop at the box office, making just $62 million from a $50 million budget, it has quickly developed a cult following amongst film fans.

It is a hilarious and stylized film that sees Ryan Gosling as the main source of comedy alongside co-star Russell Crowe, with the duo playing perfectly off one another.

This led to calls last night for a sequel, with one fan posting on X, formerly known as Twitter, saying: “I hope some studio exec is watching this Ryan Gosling Oscars performance and decides to greenlight The Nice Guys 2”.

Another fan saw Gosling’s performance and took inspiration for the plot of the sequel, posting: “Make The Nice Guys 2 a musical I really don’t give a f**k.”

The idea of a musical may sound outlandish but it’s less crazy than you think. As well as Barbie, Ryan Gosling has some serious musical chops.

Starring in La La Land isn’t his only musical experience, with Gosling being part of a rock band that sings love songs about ghosts and monsters called Dead Mans Bones.

No really. Look it up. I didn’t make that up. Gosling performs under an alias 'Baby Goose’.

Hopefully, however, whether a musical or not, last night is a sign of life for The Nice Guys 2, with Gosling’s stock at an all time high.

Director Shane Black has said he’d be willing to come back for the film, saying: “If someone decided that it were enough of a cult hit to justify that, I'd be on it,” with Russell Crowe also stating him and Gosling were willing to come back.

As of now though, unfortunately, there’s no official news on a sequel.
