The Last of Us season two is just days away from its April 13 release, but if you can't wait to see Pedro Pascal back on your screen there's another series that can help you pass the time.

Pascal is set to return alongside Bella Ramsey in the second season of the post-apocalyptic HBO show, which is based on the video game franchise developed by Naughty Dog.

After season one captivated fans and prompted one viewer on Twitter to describe it as 'one of the best video game adaptations we’ve ever gotten', HBO renewed the series in January 2023 - promising that Joel (Pascal) and Ellie (Ramsey) would be back to continue their adventure.

More than two years on, fans are eagerly awaiting the release of season two which has already been described in one review from The Hollywood Reporter as 'thrilling' and 'addicting'.

But until then, Pascal can keep you entertained with another highly-rated series - an AppleTV+ show in which he features alongside an all-star cast including the likes of Aubrey Plaza, Joey King, Nick Jonas and Ben Schwartz.

Titled Calls, the story is told through a series of interconnected phone conversations which offer insights and clues into the lives of a group of strangers, whose worlds are thrown into disarray in the lead-up to an apocalyptic event.

The series has a strong score of 95 percent on Rotten Tomatoes' Tomatometer and 87 percent on the 'Popcornmeter', with fans describing it as 'captivating'.

"CALLS on Apple TV is a horror mystery told entirely through phone calls. It’s visually captivating, narratively brilliant, singularly it’s own thing, and down right a freaky experience," one viewer wrote, adding: "Highly recommend watching in one sitting for the full horror effect. My god, I loved it."

Another viewer described the series as 'some of the most impressive feats of storytelling' they had ever seen, as a third wrote: "“Calls” on Apple TV is brilliant."

Fede Álvarez, the director of the series, encouraged people to give the show as try as he told SyFy: "I'm not one to oversell the things that I do, but it is fair to say that even when you see the trailer and someone describes it to you, you gotta put yourself in the experience.

"And by the time you finish watching the first one, it will never be what you expected and hopefully, it'll be a lot more. There's no way to anticipate it, I guess because you've never consumed something like that ... There's no words to describe the experience that you go through. It's this whole thing where you discover something in your imagination you didn't know was there."

The series has been likened to other fan-favorite shows like Black Mirror, and with nine episodes to make your way through it's the perfect quick watch to tide you over until The Last Of Us finally returns.

Calls is available to stream on AppleTV+ now. Viewers can sign up for a free seven-day trial of AppleTV+, it's $9.99 a month after that.
