Max has shared a second trailer for The Last of Us season two and fans are 'excited and scared at the same time'.

And the second season of the post-apocalyptic drama based on the legendary video game franchise is coming sooner than you think. Warning: Spoilers for season one ahead.

In the first season of the HBO series, a virus called cordyceps has ripped through society turning those infected into flesh-eating, zombie-like creatures, the plot honing in on two strangers - Joel (Pedro Pascal) and Ellie (Bella Ramsey) - who meet by chance and become like father and daughter during their fight for survival.

Adding even more tension to an already nail-biting scenario, the pair realize Ellie may hold the cure for the virus and embark on a quest to save the rest of the world however, saving the rest of the world would mean sacrificing Ellie and after forming such a close bond with her, it's a deal that Joel isn't willing to make.

But how safe will Joel be able to keep Ellie in a still zombie-ridden world with little light at the end of the tunnel?

The first trailer for the second season of The Last of Us was shared back in September 2024 and Max has since shared the second trailer for the series earlier today (January 7) in a post to Twitter.

The clip opens with the character of Abby (played by Kaitlyn Dever) - a soldier who lost a loved one and is now seeking revenge - before plunging straight back into the gripping action.

Cue fire, sirens, flashing lights - and zombies of course - alongside a scene with Ellie screaming in agony which has fans questioning whether or not it's 'the scene', and the second trailer for season two is almost too much to bear.

Oh, and what's more, the video even reveals the release month for the second season - it is anticipated to drop on Max in April 2025.

And it's not taken long for fans to flock to social media to weigh in.

One Twitter user said: "I'm excited and scared at the same time," while another added: "April can't come fast enough, but my feelings aren't ready for another apocalypse."

A third commented: "I'm so excited for this!!!!This season is going to be so intenseeeee."

"Looks FCKINGG amazing!!!!!!!!!!" a fourth wrote.

A fifth said: "I'm not ready for this."

And a sixth resolved: "Man can't wait to see Joel kick ass the entire season!!"
