Pedro Pascal posts heartbreaking tribute to Catherine O’Hara after her death

Pedro Pascal has paid tribute to his The Last of Us co-star

Pedro Pascal has paid tribute to Catherine O'Hara after it was confirmed the actor had died aged 71.

Alongside a picture of himself with O'Hara on The Last of Us set, Pascal penned on Instagram: "Oh, genius to be near you. Eternally grateful. There is less light in my world, this lucky world that had you, will keep you, always. Always. The one and ONLY #CatherineOHara."

It was announced earlier on Friday (January 30) that O'Hara had died at her home in Los Angeles 'following a brief illness'. The Home Alone star's manager confirmed the sad news to Variety.

Alongside her starring roles as Kevin's mom in Home Alone, O'Hara also featured in Beetlejuice and HBO show The Last of Us, which saw O'Hara play Gail, a therapist to Joel (played by Pascal).

Craig Mazin, The Last of Us' showrunner and executive producer, also issued a statement following O'Hara's passing.

"Catherine O’Hara was not only a legend, she was one of the most decent people I’ve ever known, much less worked with. We’re all just devastated by this news. Our thoughts are with her family," Mazin said in a statement provided to Deadline.

Many celebrities have paid tribute to O'Hara, including Macaulay Culkin, who of course played Kevin in Home Alone.

Culkin wrote: "Mama. I thought we had time.

"I wanted more. I wanted to sit in a chair next to you. I heard you but I had so much more to say.

"I love you. I’ll see you later."

O'Hara remained close to Culkin following their roles in Home Alone, with the former delivering a speech at the former child actor's Hollywood Walk of Fame star unveiling.

She said: "The scene where I had to drag him upstairs to sleep in the attic ‘cause he’d misbehaved, he’s mouthing off about the family and I say, ‘Well, you’d be pretty sad if you woke up tomorrow morning and you had no family,’ and he says, ‘No, I wouldn’t.’ And I was supposed to say, ‘Then say it again - maybe it’ll happen.’

"I can’t tell you how much that killed me – I could not wrap my head around saying something so horrific to this beautiful child."

Tributes are pouring in for O'Hara, including from the Screen Actors Guild. They wrote: "We are deeply saddened by the passing of Catherine O’Hara. A beloved actor and comedian, she was a two-time Actor Award winner and a current nominee. Our condolences to her family, colleagues and legions of fans."

O'Hara had not been seen in public for a while, as The Sun reported that the Schitt's Creek star wasn't present at the Golden Globes earlier this month, despite receiving a nomination for Best Supporting Performance by a Female Actor following her spectacular role in Seth Rogen's The Studio.
