The Jedi master is back and he’s got a lot on his plate in the first official trailer for Disney+'s new Obi-Wan Kenobi.

The Star Wars spin-off show sees Ewan McGregor once again clutching a lightsaber as he stars as the titular character.

Taking place ten years after the events of Star Wars Episode III: Revenge Of The Sith, we pick up with Kenobi living as a hermit in the wilds of Tatooine, pledged to live out a quiet life as he keeps an eye on the young Luke Skywalker.

Check out the trailer below:

Things soon take a turn as our hero is sent into a journey that forces him to confront his past, and puts him on a collision course with his former apprentice-turned-enemy: Darth Vader.

Yep, there’s a lot to be excited about, especially since the Star Wars fandom have been waiting so long for Kenobi’s return.

McGregor said it himself in an interview released last year, stating: 'There's a hunger for this character to come back. The fans have been waiting long enough, you know?'

Oh, we know. Thankfully with the arrival of the new trailer and the release date – May 25, get it in the diary – we don’t have long to wait.

Directing the series is Deborah Chow, whose name you might recognise for her work on two critically acclaimed episodes of The Mandalorian.

Speaking about the character development, Chow says, ‘This is quite a dark time that we're coming into with [Obi-Wan]. Just being a Jedi, it’s not safe. There’s Jedi hunters out there.’

McGregor continues the conversation, stating, ‘At least he has this one task left which is to keep Luke safe.

‘That's definitely a starting place for our story,’ adds Chow. ‘The interesting thing is going to be where it goes from there.’

Earlier this week, fans were offered a sneak peak at some stills of the anticipated miniseries, which arrived courtesy of Entertainment Weekly.

Sharing the images of McGregor's Obi-Wan in action on Twitter, the outlet wrote: 'What kind of Obi-Wan Kenobi will we meet in #ObiWanKenobi?

'Says Ewan McGregor: 'We find Obi-Wan at the beginning of our story rather broken, and faithless, and beaten, somewhat given up.''

Safe to say his character has quite the journey to embark on, with fans eager to see where the story takes him.

As well as welcoming back McGregor, Obi-Wan Kenobi will mark the return of Hayden Christensen in the iconic role of Darth Vader.

Other cast members include The Great Gatsby’s Joel Edgerton, Stuber actor Kumail Nanjiani and Moses Ingram of The Queen’s Gambit, along with Bonnie Piesse, Indira Varma, Rupert Friend, O’Shea Jackson Jr., Sung Kang, Simone Kessell, and Benny Safdie.

The first episode of Obi-Wan Kenobi will be available to stream on Disney+ on May 25, 2022.
