White Lotus fans are being urged to watch series dubbed 'best show ever' that's available to stream

If the season three finale of The White Lotus has left you wondering what's going to keep you entertained, fans of the HBO show have got your back with a recommendation for a series dubbed the 'most important contribution to television in the 21st century'.

And considering the amount of TV released in the 21st century, boosted by the creation of streaming services like Netflix and Disney+, it's safe to say that's pretty high praise.

Fans of The White Lotus first began sharing their recommendations after the comedy-drama series hit our screens in 2021, but with the third season having just reached its dramatic and twisty end last night (April 6), there's no better time to get stuck into something new.

School of Rock actor Mike White, who created The White Lotus, is the common thread between the shows, with fans no doubt excited to know that not only did he co-create the recommended series, but he also acted in it, too.

A decade before the all-star cast, including Jon Gries, Natasha Rothwell, Jennifer Coolidge, Patrick Schwarzenegger and Parker Posey, came together to deliver us The White Lotus, White teamed up with Jurassic Park star Laura Dern to create another drama-comedy.

The series was originally released on HBO in 2011 and went on to run for two seasons, following the story of Dern's character, Amy, as she undergoes a spiritual awakening and becomes determined to change her self-destructive approach to life to live in a more enlightened way.

White stars in the series as Tyler, a shy co-worker of Amy's who befriends her at her new job.

Aptly titled Enlightened, the series came to an end in 2013 but is still available to stream on HBO's Max, making it the perfect distraction if you're mourning the temporary end of The White Lotus.

Praising the series, one Twitter user wrote: "All this white lotus/mike white talk is a perfect segue into talking about what might be HBO's most important contribution to television in the 21st century, Enlightened."

Another added: "Now that 'the white lotus' is over you have all the time in the world to watch mike white’s last hbo project! 'enlightened' is maybe my favorite show of all time and made me fall in love with laura dern from the opening scene," prompting one fan to respond: "This is seriously one of the best shows ever."
