Tom Cruise is set to return to our screens once again in Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning.

Last year, we saw Ethan Hunt (Cruise) and the Impossible Missions Force team track down a terrifying new weapon that threatened all of humanity in Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One.

And now we'll see him back on the big screen next year.

It will be the eighth movie in the epic spy series and many believe it could be the final time we see Cruise don the role - given the movie's title - which he first starred in way back in 1996.

Four years later we got Mission: Impossible 2, and the rest is history.

Fans are now eagerly awaiting Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning, with Paramount Pictures confirming it will be in cinemas on May 23, 2025.

Christopher McQuarrie has returned to direct while Cruise will be joined onscreen by Hayley Atwell, Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, Esai Morales, Pom Klementieff, Vanessa Kirby, Mariela Garriga, Henry Czerny, Shea Whigham, Greg Tarzan Davis, Charles Parnell and Frederick Schmidt.

A few new faces are set to join the cast, including Hannah Waddingham, Janet McTeer, Holt McCallany, Katy O’Brian, Nick Offerman and Tramell Tillman.

Sharing the film's trailer on Twitter, Cruise wrote: "Our lives are the sum of our choices. Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning. See you at the movies May 23, 2025."

One person joked: "If there's one thing we know we'll get in a Mission Impossible trailer, its Tom Cruise sprinting haha."

While another penned: "Man this franchise still finding ways to go above and beyond."

And a third typed: "They never miss I love the whole mission impossible franchise this is gonna be good especially if it’s the final one."

In the trailer we see Cruise, a daring actor who performs most of his own stunts, does a little bit of scuba diving and even hangs upside down from a plane.

The upcoming film is a sequel to Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One and was initially earmarked to be released as 'Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part Two'.

In 'Dead Reckoning' Hunt faced off against an advanced sentient AI, and the storyline is still ongoing.

Now, here's a spoiler so if you haven't watched the last one scroll on!

At the end of the last flick we saw Hunt gain possession of the key that gives him access to the AI dubbed 'The Entity'.

So fans can expect more of the same!

Despite part one having received good reviews from critics it didn't do quite as well as expected in theaters around the world.

In its opening weekend, Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning, as it is now called, did well boasting $56.2 million domestically, and was estimated to lose $100 million - this was due to both Barbie and Oppenheimer being released the following week.

Fortunately for Cruise and Paramount Pictures, it managed to gross $570.6 million worldwide but reportedly cost around $400 million - making it one of the most expensive films ever made.
