People blown away by trailer for unique new extremely violent Christmas movie

Filmgoers are in for a not-so-merry Christmas, as legendary director John Woo releases an insanely violent holiday movie

Most films that get released over Christmas are cosy, comforting and family-friendly, for pretty obvious reasons.

However, film buffs have been shocked by one violent action film which is set to hit theatres this holiday season.

Check it out:

Following in the footsteps of classic movie Die Hard, the new flick is a gritty action film which is set over the festive period.

Throughout Silent Night, lone hero Godlock seeks vengeance after his young son is caught in the crossfire of a gang war.

Having also been injured in the same shoot-out, the dad is left unable to speak after taking a bullet to the throat - making him all the more menacing as he takes his silent revenge.

Starring Suicide Squad actor Joel Kinnaman as the lead as well as musician Kid Cudi, the film also features plenty of car crashes as the bodies begin to pile up.

If that wasn’t enough to whet your appetite, the movie is also directed by action film legend John Woo.

The name should sound familiar as the filmmaker has previously worked on the Mission Impossible franchise, Face/Off and Hostage.

With the same producer as John Wick, it’s unsurprising that the film is ultra-violent as the grieving dad wages all-out war against his son's killers.

Speaking about his latest action film with Collider, Kinnaman revealed that it hadn’t been easy to shoot Silent Night – despite the lack of dialogue.

He told the outlet: “Some people thought like, ‘Oh, that's easy. You don't have to learn any lines’, but it's not, because the eyes don't lie. And often the dialogue, it will help you get there. It would help you get emotionally there.”

Continuing, he added: “…it's actually a lot harder to portray everything that you just have to have that kind of inner life and that inner motor and those thought processes going for real. You just can't hide. So I think it's very revealing when there's no dialogue.”

Despite this, the Swedish star was incredibly honoured to play the part which he described as a ‘great challenge’.

With Kinnaman being unable to speak throughout, the film uses its visuals and music to portray how the character feels – leading to some very gory scenes.

With Silent Night due to be released on December 1, it seems cinemagoers will have a yule-lot of fun with this action thriller.
