Amanda Bynes first shot to fame as a child actor in the late 90s, starring on Nickelodeon's shows All That and The Amanda Show.
However, she quit acting for good at the age of 24, following her last major role in the movie, Easy A, alongside Emma Stone, back in 2010.
"Being an actress isn’t as fun as it may seem. If I don’t love something anymore, I stop doing it. I don’t love acting anymore, so I’ve stopped doing it. I know 24 is a young age to retire, but you heard it here first," she later posted on social media.
Following her stepping away from the spotlight, Bynes struggled with both substance abuse and her mental health.

In August 2013, at the height of Bynes' mental health crisis, her parents requested that the court allow them to temporarily place the then-25-year-old under conservatorship.

A conservatorship is a court granted guardianship for individuals unable to make their own decisions. It is typically reserved for dementia patients and those suffering from severe mental health issues.
It wasn't until 2022 that the court lifted her conservatorship.
At the time, Bynes thanked her fans 'for their love and well wishes' over the nine-year period.
In a statement shared with People, she previously said: "Following today's decision by the judge to terminate my conservatorship, I would like to thank my fans for their love and well wishes during this time.
"I would also like to thank my lawyer and my parents for their support over the last nine years."

With Bynes leaving the industry so suddenly, many have wondered what could have happened to make the 24-year-old walk away from her acting career.
Back in 2018, she spoke to PAPER, explaining that after she watched her performance in Easy A, she had a different reaction from everybody else.
"I literally couldn't stand my appearance in that movie and I didn't like my performance. I was absolutely convinced I needed to stop acting after seeing it," Bynes said.
"I was high on marijuana when I saw that but for some reason it really started to affect me. I don't know if it was a drug-induced psychosis or what, but it affected my brain in a different way than it affects other people. It absolutely changed my perception of things."

Fans have been happy to see that Bynes is now focusing on a new career and hobbies.
In April this year, the 39-year-old announced she had joined OnlyFans, but would not be using it for NSFW purposes, unlike many others on the platform.
"I'm doing OnlyFans to chat with my fans through dm's. I won't be posting any sleazy content. Excited to join," Bynes said on social media.
The former actor has also started a new creative hobby, hosting art shows.
Last year, she hosted an exhibition with Austin Babbitt, an American fashion designer and artist, in Los Angeles.
