Fans have said that this ‘underrated’ Netflix horror movie is a must watch, but it might put you off wanting to have kids.

It’s time for movie buffs to add this Netflix horror to their watchlist, after viewers have said it caught them completely ‘off guard’.

Not only is the 2019 movie ‘unsettling’ and ‘very unpredictable’ it also features a couple of familiar faces.

The psychological thriller is directed by Veronika Franz and Severin Fiala, and written by Franz, Fiala, and Sergio Casci.

One user on Reddit couldn’t get enough of the creepy flick, saying: “I love when horror movies completely catch me off guard. This one did that in a major way. Very dark, atmospheric, unsettling, shocking and very unpredictable.

“And trust me, after the credits roll you'll need a couple of minutes to think about wtf happened. And great acting! Highly recommend it!”

The film - The Lodge - was released in 2019, but was not available on Netflix until earlier this year.

The twisted story follows teenager Aiden (Jaeden Martell) and his younger sister Mia (Lia McHugh), after tragically losing their mother to suicide.

They are left in their remote family lodge with their father and future stepmother, Grace Marshall (Riley Keough).

But when unexplained events start to occur, it brings up Grace’s childhood experience surviving an extreme religious cult, and she begins to question her reality.

Despite loving the movie, one person on Reddit said it was 'the most effective form of birth control'.

They wrote: "It was the most effective form of birth control to ever grace the silver screen. People were walking out of the movie and scheduling vasectomies, and I’m pretty sure a few just left their kids at the theater.

"And really, can you blame them?"

But other fans argued that the children in the film were just a ‘product of their environment’.

While many sing the movie's praises, one user has also taken the opportunity to highlight a potentially triggering scene which takes place early on in the film.

The user said: "If you’re sensitive to suicide do NOT watch The Lodge on Netflix.

“There is an extremely violent suicide without warning. Please share this - 100 percent triggering and painful to watch.”
