Fans are saying Margot Robbie’s ‘greatest performance’ will always be in ‘I, Tonya’

The Aussie actor played Tonya Harding back in 2017, with film buffs still in awe over Robbie's performance as the real-life athlete

Though she’s been painting the town pink recently, Margot Robbie’s fans are in awe of her previous role.

In fact, they’ve been hugely impressed by the Barbie actor’s turn as controversial figure skater Tonya Harding.

When you watch Robbie alongside the real-life athlete, it’s not hard to understand why fans say I, Tonya will always be her ‘greatest performance’.

If you’ve not watched the 2017 biopic, here’s a quick synopsis.

Based on the real-life Olympian, I, Tonya tells the story of US figure skater Tonya Harding who becomes involved in one of sport's biggest scandals.

As she goes for gold at the 1994 Winter Olympics, Harding (Robbie) is accused of conspiring with her ex-husband to injure fellow athlete Nancy Kerrigan.

Viewers then watch as the former gold medallist’s reputation is destroyed, with it remaining unclear just how much Harding knew about her rival’s attack.

Fans loved Robbie in the flick.

The film also touches upon Harding’s poverty-stricken and abusive home life, with the skater being dubbed ‘white trash’ by mainstream media.

It is hard to take your eyes off the screen as Robbie portrays the ice skater both on and off the ice, with the actor later receiving a Critics’ Choice award for her role.

Fans have claimed that it's her 'greatest performance', with the film taking pole position due to the actor's uncanny resemblance to Harding.

It’s after a clip comparing the two women went viral online, with the footage seen by over 4.5 million people.

Uploaded to X (Twitter) by user @margohgifs, they gushed about the actor and wrote: “Margot Robbie in 'I, Tonya' will always leave me SPEECHLESS.”

Others agreed, with one fan claiming it was the Aussie actor’s ‘greatest performance’, even beating Barbie.

“I think I it was her greatest performance. Tonya (although far from a saint), did not deserve the amount of scrutiny she obtained as well, eg: Monica Lewnksy,” they explained.

“The movie humanized her and really made you feel sad for her because of comparable disadvantages to the others. She was an excellent skater.”

Another added that it was her ‘her best act’ while a third stated the actor should have ‘won the Oscar’ for her performance.

It’s unsurprising that the film has been so well received by fans though, as it’s currently the highest-ranked film starring The Suicide Squad actor on Rotten Tomatoes.

Scoring a super fresh 90 per cent rating, with one critic calling Robbie ‘excellent’ and dubbing the film ‘Scorsese on ice’.
