After much anticipation, a whole load of merch and a committed extravagant press tour, Barbie is finally in cinemas.

Greta Gerwig’s latest movie hit the big screen on Friday (21 July), having film fans flock to see it in their best pinks.

Barbie sees the doll leave Barbieland for the real world where she believes the Barbies have solved all their problems. She embarks on a pink-fuelled journey of self-discovery, existential crises and flat feet - with plenty of star cameos along the way.

Oh, and just a heads up, this article contains some very minor spoilers - well, spoilers for those who were hoping for some doll-on-doll action anyway.

Starring in the titular role is Margot Robbie, 33, who to be specific is the ‘Stereotypical Barbie’ doll.

And as her Ken, beach Ken, is of course Ryan Gosling, 42.

An important part of the film to remember is that they are dolls. So therefore, as Robbie’s character reminds a load of leering construction workers in the Real World, they have ‘no genitals’.

Following through with this, there’s many moments of comedy between Barbie and Ken - such as her confusion as to why he would stay over for the night.

Plus, there’s the devoted doll saying goodbye to Barbie at the door of her dreamhouse, where he stands pouting inches from her face for an awkwardly long amount of time. But no kiss. And Ken seems to be fine with this.

In real life however, Robbie admitted to People that no kiss with The Notebook actor ‘didn’t feel like a win for me’.

The Aussie’s friends couldn’t believe it either - how was their actor friend also a producer on this movie but still not smooching Gosling?

Robbie recalled: “All of my girlfriends were like, ‘Well you did a whole movie with him and you don’t kiss? What’s wrong with you?

“I thought you were kind of in charge on this one!’

“I was like, ‘I know, I can’t check that one off [my list]’.”

Although his co-star seems a little disappointed that she didn’t get to kiss him, Gosling was pleased with how they portrayed their tricky romance.

He said in their joint interview: “It was so funny trying to figure out what their idea of kissing might be.

“I’m so glad all of that got cut out.”

While there wasn’t much lip action, the movie sees a lot of, I guess, foot action from Gosling as he shows off his dance moves.

“It was something I had to prepare for a lot,” he said. But he had help with his preparation from his daughters Esmeralda, eight, and Amada, seven, as well as his partner Eva Mendes.

“They were at home while I was doing it,” Gosling said of practicing his Ken dancing. “And they ended up knowing it as well as I did.”
