The first trailer for Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes released on Thursday (2 November) and fans are pretty excited.

The latest release in the popular franchise follows on from 2017's War for the Planet of the Apes, which concluded with Caesar leading his followers into a new oasis.

While humans have been defeated and reduced to a near feral existence, the ape societies continue to thrive in this ever-changing world.

An official description for the film reads: "As a new tyrannical ape leader builds his empire, one young ape undertakes a harrowing journey that will cause him to question all that he has known about the past and to make choices that will define a future for apes and humans alike."

Wes Ball is on directing duties for Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, known largely for the Maze Runner trilogy.

He directed the film from a script produced by Josh Friedman, Rick Jaffa, Amanda Silver and Patrick Aison.

Ball, Jaffa, Silver, Joe Hartwick Jr. and Jason Reed, while Peter Chernin and Jenno Topping serve as executive producers on the project.

The first trailer provided a taste of what we can expect in the new film, from the characters, to the locations we will experience.

There is one particular moment that eagle-eyed fans spotted - something that is a nice nod to some of the earlier films in the franchise.

In 2011's Rise of The Planet of The Apes, Caesar is raised and cared for by geneticist Will in his family home.

Of course, Caesar is not a human, so he resides in the attic where he watches the world go by through a rather unique circular window.

While it may just be a window, it certainly plays a huge part in Rise of The Planet of The Apes, as Caesar is branded dangerous and sent to live in a primate sanctuary.

The ape ends up drawing the shape of the window on the wall in his cell to remind him of home.

The window is seen in the first trailer.

Well, those who have watched the Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes trailer closely may have spotted the window feature.

Not the window per say, but the symbol actually featured on a necklace Caesar is wearing in the new footage.

"I JUST NOTICED HIS NECKLACE IS THE WINDOW SYMBOL F**CKK," one person penned on X, formerly known as Twitter.

While a second pointed out: "It’s in the poster also as the date."

Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes will release in cinemas on May 24, 2024.
