Streaming fans have just days left to see why 'harrowing' documentary branded ‘best ever made’ has near-perfect RT score

The 2009 documentary will not be available to stream in a just a few days

Streaming fans have just a few days left to watch a Disney+/Hulu documentary dubbed the 'best ever made' as it leaves the platform next month.

Because streaming platforms nowadays are absolutely stacked with countless TV shows and films, old stuff does have to leave to make way for the newest releases.

And on September 6, a 'harrowing' documentary is to leave Hulu, which will come as a huge disappointment to fans considering how much it is loved.

The Cove, which released in 2009, follows former dolphin trainer Ric O'Barry, who was on a quest to document the dolphin hunting operations in Taiji, Wakayama, Japan.

Now 85 years old, O'Barry, an animal rights activist, heads up the Dolphin Project, and 'has rescued and rehabilitated dolphins in many countries around the world, including Haiti, Colombia, Guatemala, Indonesia, Nicaragua, Brazil, South Korea, the Bahamas Islands and the United States', according to the site.

O'Barry's passion for justice was told in The Cove, an eye-opening reality of what really goes on across the globe.

"The best documentary movie ever made!" one viewer penned on Rotten Tomatoes, while a second described its story as 'harrowing'.

Meanwhile, a third remarked: "The most eye opening and amazing movie I have ever seen," and a fourth quipped: "A deeply disturbing profile of the dolphin hunting practices in Taiji, Japan, captured on video by Richard O'Barry and fellow supporters/activists. I wish I had watched this years ago."

To this day, The Cove sits at an impressive 95 percent Rotten Tomatoes score, which certainly suggests that industry critics see the documentary as a must-watch.

Reporters raved about the documentary and the important story it was trying to tell.

The Guardian's review stated: "The great strength of this documentary about the covert killing of wild dolphins in Japan is its aesthetic: artful edits, zippy music, even a few jokes. Radical stuff for an eco-documentary."

Film.com's review of the documentary said: "The Cove is guerrilla journalism at its best. Structured and paced by director Louie Psihoyos as a thriller/caper movie, it brings audience-grabbing cinematic conventions to work in telling its story of dolphin genocide."

While The Australian's review touched on the 'horror' element of the documentary by saying: "By any measure, this is a horror film: graphic, shocking, uncompromising. The horrors, moreover, are real: the annual slaughter of thousands of dolphins in a secluded cove in Japan, where they are trapped in nets and hacked and speared to death."

Be quick as The Cove leaves on September 6.
