Deadpool and Wolverine's ending was officially changed after Blake Lively intervention

Lively was credited with making the movie 'more suspenseful'

Deadpool and Wolverine could've had rather different endings if it wasn't for Blake Lively.

Director Shawn Levy has credited the actress, who cameos as Ladypool, for making the movie's final scenes 'much more satisfying.'

Releasing back in July, the highly-anticipated Deadpool sequel sees Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman reprise their iconic roles of Wade Wilson and Logan.

The pair must work together to try to save Deadpool’s world when the Time Variance Authority (TVA) and Charles Xavier’s twin sister Cassandra Nova threaten it.

This takes the two characters across two different realities, and sees them come up against a boatload of returning X-Men villains, as well as finding allies in returning Marvel characters.

The movie fast became the highest-grossing R-rated film of all time, raking in $1.34 billion worldwide.

And earlier this month, it finally joined Disney+ after previously releasing on Amazon Prime Video and Apple TV.

Fans can watch a director's commentary of Deadpool and Wolverine, which also features Reynolds.

It's here that Levy reveals how a suggestion from Lively - who is of course married to Reynolds - changed the ending of the movie.

The pair talk about reshoots during the commentary, as Reynolds says: "We did just a day-and-a-half of reshoots on the movie, which we're very proud of. "These kinds of movies typically involve weeks of reshoots.

"But this speech that Matthew has is one of the pieces that we reshot. And he is miraculous."

Originally, after Deadpool and Wolverine sacrificed themselves to destroy the Time Ripper, viewers would've almost immediately discovered they'd survived.

But in the final version, the pair's iconic entrance, epically soundtracked by Goo Goo Dolls, is delayed.

Instead, Paradox (Matthew Macfadyen) makes his speech to B-15 (Wunmi Mosaku), giving the audience more time to sweat.

Levy explains: "And credit where credit is due. It used to be that there was no suspense, that the power room blew up, and our heroes had survived.

"And it was Blake Lively who said to us, 'You know, I've been with you this whole movie. I want to sit in the fear that they're lost. Let me be in that place of suspense so the triumph of their survival is more emotional and visceral.'"

Levy continued: "That was a Blake note and it really opened up a new way of thinking about this part of the movie and it's why we did this reshoot… and, here, the payoff is so much more satisfying."

Deadpool and Wolverine is available to stream now on Disney+.
