Al Pacino unveiled a Shrek phone case during an interview and now the ogre has responded.

Shrek is love, Shrek is life - well, the Godfather actor may not love Shrek quite that much, but certainly enough to pop not just him on the back of his phone.

Pacino gave fans a flash of his phone case during an interview with the BBC, revealing the case features not just one picture of Shrek's face but multiple.

The Oscar award-winning actor can be seen showing the back of his phone with a pretty blank expression on his face as if it's nothing out of the ordinary.

However, the BBC journalist can be heard saying: "Of all the things in the world that I thought Al Pacino would have on his phone cover, I was not expecting Shrek."

Turning to look directly at the camera, Pacino said: "Who would be expecting Shrek? Who? That’s mine."

It didn't take long for people to flock to social media in stitches.

A Twitter user wrote: "Something about Al Pacino having a Shrek phone case is so wholesome to me."

"A Real Goat with a goat phone case. I’m healing," another added.

And now the official page for DreamWorks' Shrek has spoken out.

Shrek - well, not literally Shrek but you know what I mean - took to Instagram on Wednesday (October 16) to share a picture of the ogre holding up his own phone for the world to see.

And would you believe it, but it turns out Shrek's phone case has multiple faces of Pacino on it.

The caption to the post reads: "Game recognize game."

Shrek and Pacino fans far and wide have flooded to the post to weigh in.

One Instagram user said: "Two of the biggest stars in Hollywood!"

"This is a piece of ART," another commented.

A third added: "Where can I buy it?"

And a fourth wrote: "I hope they cast Al Pacino in shrek 5."

Later on in the interview, when asked why he 'shrek[s] it,' Pacino explained the reason he has a Shrek phone case is as a result of his youngest daughter.

"My youngest daughter was like 'Can I have your phone Dad? I just gotta...' So I gave her my phone and she came back and she had this on it. She said, 'It's Shrek, Dad!' I said, 'Shrek, wow! Okay, I'll hold onto it.'"

And that was that.
