A Halloween comedy starring Marlon Wayans has reached the number one film spot on Netflix.

Many shops may have already lined their shelves with Christmas paraphernalia - and yes, I admit I have already watched a festive film - but there's one highly-anticipated event which is still yet to go.

Christmas may be advertised as the best time of the year, but can it really ever beat whacking out the fancy dress, slapping on the face paint and running around your neighbourhood scaring the living daylights out of people and snatching free candy?

You'll no longer need to surf endlessly through Netflix's endless suggestions of Halloween films to get you in the mood for the spooky season either, as one particular film has reached the top spot on the streaming service and it stars iconic Halloween movie actor, Marlon Wayans.

Prepare to want to leap onto Netflix as soon as you finish work:

Wayans - who is known for his spooktacular roles in both A Haunted House (2013) and Scary Movie (2000) - stars in recently released adventure-comedy, The Cure of Bridge Hollow, directed by Jeff Wadlow.

Netflix's synopsis for The Curse of Bridge Hollow reads: "A Halloween-hating dad reluctantly teams up with his teenage daughter when an evil spirit wreaks havoc by making their town's decorations come to life."

Alongside Wayans, the movie stars the likes of former Destiny's Child member, Kelly - Kelendria - Rowland, as well as Stranger Things actor Priah Ferguson.

Stranger Thing's Priah Ferguson stars alongside Marlon Wayans.

However, despite achieving the top spot on Netflix's films, The Curse of Bridge Hollow has received mixed reviews from viewers.

One Twitter user wrote: "Save yourselves an hour and a half and don’t bother watching The Curse Of Bridge Hollow on Netflix!!! It’s shocking!!!"

Another said: "One of the worst movies I’ve seen in a long time, even for kids. Kelly was terrible, Marlon was overacting, and Priah was not ready for a starring role. So bad!"

However, a third responded: "Ummmm, I watched it and I actually enjoyed it very much. Kelly was amazing."

Some viewers were convinced, but others loved the Halloween comedy.

The film has been hailed as 'so amazing' by many others too.

One said: "Give me more movies like The curse of bridge hollow. A black family movies where black ppl aren’t being shot or having to deal or tackle racist issues or none of that nonsense. Good halloween movie & the characters make sense."

"Watching the curse of bridge hollow right now and priah is so amazing like always," a second commented.

A third added: "The Curse of Bridge Hollow is so good! Marlon Wayans and Kelly Rowland are perfection on screen together."

A final resolved: "I REALLY REALLY REALLY LOVED The Curse of Bridge Hollow!!! Why wasn't this in theaters? I screamed, laughed, yelled at the TV. It's everything a Halloween movie should be!!!"
