Stranger Things fans lose it after discovering number on 'missing teen' poster in latest series actually works

The poster contains an easter egg for fans of the hit Netflix show

People have found a spine-tingling easter egg in a phone number on a 'missing teen' poster in Stranger Things.

The record-breaking Netflix show is moving into its final season this year, and in what has become tradition for final seasons, this will be broken up into multiple parts.

Netflix is taking that concept even further for Stranger Things than the usual two-part finale, with Stranger Things 5: Volume 1 being released on 26 November, Volume 2 on Christmas Day, and then the actual finale going out on New Year's Eve.

Volume 1 has now wrapped up, and fans are eagerly looking for anything to keep getting their Stranger Things fix until the next part is released for Christmas.

And one detail of the first season has included an unusual detail which fans have leapt on.

The detail is a 'missing teen' poster of Millie Bobby Brown's character Eleven, with the name 'Jane Hopper', and 'reward for location of missing child'. At the bottom of the poster is a phone number for anyone with a lead on finding the 'missing teen' to call and pass on a tip.

And fans have been left ecstatic when they tried to call the number, which includes an Indiana area code where the show is set, it actually works. Not only that, but it even gives them a little teaser about the show.

Now, fair warning, if you'd rather find out for yourself what happens when you call the number, then spoiler alert from here.

When they call the number, according to EW, fans are met with a pre-recorded message from an official in the fictional town of Hawkins, with the sound of typing clacking away in the background.

The voice begins: "Thank you for contacting the Hawkins Police Department."

It then continues: "Due to the recent 7.4 magnitude earthquake, Hawkins is current under lockdown to ensure the safety of our residents."

The message then goes on to reference searching for missing 'Jane', which started at the beginning of season 5.

It says: "The Hawkins Emergency Task Force is working closely with the Hawkins PD to track down missing persons, of which Jane Hopper is a priority.

"We urge you, as a responsible citizen of Hawkins, to assist in our search to locate her."

The line then disconnects. Suspenseful, I know.

If you've watched the four episodes of season 5, you'll know the cliffhanger we've all been left on, and wonder, how are they going to top that?

Well, co-creator Ross Duffer promised in a recent interview that the action is just starting.

"It does not scale down, I will say that much," Duffer explained of the rest of the episodes. "This is one reason it's taken so long to get out and why we were filming for so long."

The first four episodes of Stranger Things 5 are available to watch now on Netflix.
