Warning: spoilers ahead for the Stranger Things 5 finale
Stranger Things has finally come to an end and some fans have been left quite annoyed at how one of the key deaths was handled in the show.
Stranger Things has finally come to an end after being a Netflix golden egg for almost a decade.
The show wouldn’t be as popular as it is if it wasn’t doing something right, but how the show handled the final season and its 2 hour finale has resulted in a divided fan base.
Some fans have argued that the show’s conclusion was even worse than Game of Thrones’ final season.
Game of Thrones... remember, the hit HBO fantasy-political maneuvering show that had the world in a chokehold until... well until it didn’t. Yeah, some fans are saying it is *that*bad, but the Rotten Tomatoes score for the final season of Stranger Things would strongly disagree.
One of the plot lines fans were hoping would get a satisfying conclusion at least was how the big, bad Vecna would be defeated, and while some have argued that it was right for the showrunners to have Winona Ryder’s character Joyce Byers do the deed, others had a clear issue with it.
Fans wanted this scene to be so much better (Netflix) Not that she was the one to strike the final blow per-se, but rather that there was one thing that the creators ignored, that some fans have claimed would have made it an even more impactful moment.
Commenting on a video showing Joyce hacking at Vecna, an X user wrote: “If Joyce was gonna be the one to do the kill shot…. Vecna should have turned back into Henry or at least said her name to tie in the fact that THEY ACTUALLY KNEW EACH OTHER.”
Okay, if you are a little confused stay with me.
We already know that Vecna is Henry Creel and was the first test subject at Hawkins lab but he also went to high school with Joyce and Hopper, played by David Harbour.
He was even in a play that Joyce directed when they were at school. But this isn’t really addressed in the show and all this backstory is revealed in the prequel play, The First Shadow.
Despite this fact, some other viewers also agreed it would have been nice for the show to highlight this connection in Vecna’s final moments.
Fans wanted the showrunners to make reference to the fact Joyce knew Henry Creel (Netflix) Another wrote: “The way they BRUSHED over how they knew each other lowkey blew me like come on Duffer Bros smh.”
A third commented: “I swear o thought they were gonna have a moment when he looked at her before hand.”
Another added: “I guess it was supposed to be an unspoken thing but i would’ve liked that to have been an obvious thing.”
With another simply writing: “Really thought we were gonna get some type of conclusion with that lmao.”
The finale is available to watch on Netflix, along with every other season, so go and make up your mind for yourself.
