The most expensive movie to hit Netflix in 2023 has left fans divided just days after its release on the popular streaming platform.

If you're a subscriber to the service - and let's face it, who's not? - then you'll know it can be difficult to know what to put on.

Scrolling through each category on Netflix and finding something to watch is never easy, so seeing what others are raving about online is always helpful.

The particular Netflix hit was said to be the most expensive movie to create and fans were eagerly waiting for it to drop.

However, the most exciting part of it all is that it supposedly took 40 years to create.

Not only was the cast looking like an amazing line-up, but Zack Snyder was also directing, which means that it should have been the biggest blockbuster to hit the platform.

But it just didn’t land as well as hoped.

Rebel Moon has only been available to watch since December 15, but many viewers have provided their thoughts on it.

The film initially had to overcome a lot of setbacks in order to happen, as Snyder admitted to The Hollywood Reporter that he had first come up with the idea for the film in the 1980s, when he was in film school.

Not only did this film take so long to create, but the film and its sequel also cost a whopping $166 million, according to Vanity Fair.

There's also an R-rated director's cut of Part 1 on the way which is apparently an hour longer.

The synopsis for the two-instalment creation reads: “When a colony on the edge of the galaxy finds itself threatened by the armies of the tyrannical Regent Balisarius, they dispatch a young woman with a mysterious past to seek out warriors from neighboring planets to help them take a stand.”

You only have to head to social media sites to see how divisive Rebel Moon is amongst fans.

Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, one film fanatic penned: "Rebel Moon is a BANGER movie! Yet it is getting a lot of hate on IMDb, why?!"

A second added: "Rebel Moon is gonna be like [Synder's 2011 film] Sucker Punch after years and years people will realize what a gem of a film they get from Snyderman."

Rebel Moon released earlier this month.

On the other hand, another viewer disagreed: "It's not a banger film. It has issues and a lot of them. It has the potential to be really good but for now, it depends on the Dir cut and visually it's still breathtaking."

While another in the same camp remarked: "It's just the disappointment of the year, no tangible characters at all and nothing that's interesting."

Rebel Moon is streaming on Netflix right now.
