Netflix fans are obsessed with new thriller series which has them ‘completely hooked’ from first episode

Netflix subscribers have just one complaint about the political drama

Netflix subscribers say they're 'hooked' on a new thriller series which has them in a 'chokehold' from the very first episode.

It might almost be Christmas, but people seem to be indulging in disaster dramas and post-apocalyptic TV series instead of the usual festive fluffiness this year.

And one TV show that's been climbing the Netflix charts is a 'satisfying' South Korean political thriller which has blown fans away.

Two episodes of the drama are released a week, helping it become the second most-watched non-English language series on the streamer globally.

The story follows an unhappy couple whose worlds are turned upside down three years on from their arranged marriage.

The pair - politician spokesperson Sa-eon and selectively mute interpreter Hee-joo - despise each other, but their rocky marriage is tested when Hee-joo is kidnapped.

All this happens just as Sa-eon is dealing with a national emergency at work. How's that for timing!?

Well, Hee-joo is left devastated when her hellbent kidnapper finally gets her husband on the phone, only for Sa-eon to tell him to kill her.

So when Hee-joo manages to get away, she’s angrier than ever.

Hee-joo is determined to win back her husband's affection, while the pair must decode what the kidnapper really wants...

The drama - starring Yoo Yeon-seok, Chae Soo-bin, and Heo Nam-jun - is called When The Phone Rings, and you can watch its trailer below:

Fans have flocked to social media to praise the high-octane series, with one fan on X claiming to be 'absolutely hooked' after the first episode alone.

A second gushed: "When the Phone Rings on Netflix is having me in a tight chokehold rn… like the ost [original soundtrack]? The characters? Actors? Sooo good."

A third tweeted: "Just when I thought 2024 was going to end with only a few good kdramas this year, NETFLIX SUDDENLY DROPS WHEN THE PHONE RINGS...I'M HOOKED!!! CAN'T WAIT FOR THE NEXT EPISODES!!!!"

A fourth wrote: "Just binge watched #WhenThePhoneRings all the way up to ep8 on Netflix. And F**K omg I actually have not seen any drama in kdramaland this satisfying since like 2019. We are soooooooo back. You know the writers really went insane with this one."

But others complained about not being able to binge all the episodes in one go.

One person vented: "I randomly watched When the Phone Rings on Netflix last night, and I’m hooked after the first episode. I should’ve waited until the series was complete because now I have to wait every week."

When does the next episode of When The Phone Rings release?

There are four more episodes to go in this season of the K-drama, with the next two releasing on Friday December 27 and Saturday December 28.

The final two episodes go live on January 3 and January 3 2025.
