Tired of endlessly scrolling through Netflix, I used an AI app to recommend me a new show to watch.
I was impressed when it suggested me a TV series with near-perfect ratings and an uplifting storyline I'd never heard of before.
While Netflix's algorithms are designed to bring us shows tailored to our interests and viewing habits, chances are we're missing out on a few.

And with more than 7,000 titles available to stream, we're never going to comb through all of them.
While there are Netflix codes that help us unlock new content, it still requires a fair bit of scrolling.
Instead, I used Taranify AI to recommend me six new watches based on my mood.
After picking out colors from a random selection, in less than 90 seconds my mood was analyzed.

According to the app, I was feeling 'worried and unsure' - no comment on how accurate that was - but based on this, it pulled together six uplifting Netflix shows and movies designed to ease my mood.

One in particular caught my eye, called On My Block.
Having released in 2018, I couldn't say I was familiar with the show.

Upon further investigation, the four-season show averages a 93 percent Rotten Tomatoes score.
And fans are still raving about the show, saying it's 'hard not to sit and binge.'
The coming-of-age teen comedy-drama set in the fictional inner-city Los Angeles neighborhood of Freeridge.
Starring Sierra Capri, Jason Genao, Brett Gray and Diego Tinoco, it follows four smart teens whose lifelong friendship is put to the test as they navigate the trials of high school in a challenging environment, including gangs, loyalties and, of course, love.

Fans reckon the show is an '11/10,' as, taking to Rotten Tomatoes, one said: "Amazing show!! Intense, hilarious, and real. 11/10 recommend!"
A second added: "Such an amazing show! Also I love the representation of the both the diversity of the cast and the writing of this show, 10/10 amazing."
Others loved how 'relatable' the show was - for 'any ages' - as one viewer admitted: "Great show. Watched the entire series in less than 48 hours."

Another social media user added: "It was hard not to sit and binge watch the entire first season...The show is charming, funny and just enough drama to not make you sick but to make you want more."
The show is from Awkward creator Lauren Iungerich and Empire's Eddie Gonzalez and Jeremy Haft.
It proved so popular, they followed it up with spin-off series Freeridge which was released in 2023 and canceled after one season.

It scored a respectable 80 percent on Rotten Tomatoes, but fans didn't seem to love it as much as On My Block itself.
Still, I now have 38 new-to-me episodes to binge - and eight episodes of a spin-off, if I want - all thanks to Taranify AI.
It can also recommend you food, Spotify playlist, movies and books - all depending on your mood.
On My Block is streaming now on Netflix.
