While arguably nothing will quite live up to the impeccable TV that is Breaking Bad, there's a series that could be a close second to it.

The Bryan Cranston-led show first aired back in 2008 and drew to a close after five seasons in 2013.

Originally created and aired for AMC, it wasn't long until Netflix swooped in and acquired the rights to the show (which boasts a very impressive 96 percent score on Rotten Tomatoes) — something which massively boosted Breaking Bad's popularity.

Reportedly the series was going to be axed from the streaming platform at the beginning of 2025, but Netflix managed to work out a deal with Sony Pictures so that fans have the chance to binge it until 2027.

For those of you who have already watched the series and want something new though, there's another gritty crime series that Breaking Bad fans are being told to watch.

Taking to Facebook page Netflix Bangers yesterday (July 14), one person asked for recommendations of TV shows that are similar to Breaking Bad and its spin-off series, Better Call Saul.

Dozens of people went on to reply with Queen of the South, a show about a woman who flees Mexico to live in Dallas and goes on to become the country's reigning drug smuggler.

IMDb rates it 8/10 while reviewers on Rotten Tomatoes have given Queen of the South an 88 percent rating.

Some people like the show so much they hailed it 'the best show they've ever seen' and have binged it on more than one occasion.

One reviewer said of Queen of the South on IMDb: "Warning, you can't just watch one show, you will continue watching more and more. The show is absolutely brilliant."

Noting the comparisons to Breaking Bad, another wrote: "This show is no Breaking Bad, but it is enjoyable!"

The 2016 review continued: "For the first 2 episodes I have been pleasantly surprised. Give it a shot! The episodes move quickly and so far, I'm blue at the end that I have to wait another week to see what happens next. The acting is solid, the script is good so far, and if they can keep it up this will be a great show for the long run! I hope it stays around!"

And it did just that, for a while... anyway. Queen of the South went on to run for five seasons (all of which are streaming on Netflix) before it was canceled in 2021.
