Netflix is launching a first of its kind new show and it starts next week

Not everybody is so enthusiastic about the idea...

Netflix has unveiled the details of its 'first-of-a-kind' TV show that's set to debut next week.

The world's largest streaming service is home to thousands of captivating movies and TV series - including a fair few hidden gems.

But this new venture, which debuts on Wednesday March 12, is set to be 'reckless' - or so jokes John Mulaney, who's at the helm of these mid-week antics.

That's right, the streamer is launching its first ever live celebrity talk show, called Everybody’s Live with John Mulaney.

The show is set to air for 12 consecutive weeks, and, as per Deadline, a second series has already been green-lit. No pressure, then...

At the streamer's biannual comedy festival, Netflix is a Joke Fest, last year, Mulaney took on hosting duties for a live, six-episode talk show, John Mulaney’s Everybody’s in LA.

Vulture reports that while this new show won't be so LA-centric, it will see fan-favorite elements of the festival show make a comeback - including phone-ins from viewers and an unusual concoction of famous faces.

As Mulaney hypothesized: “This will be the one place where you could see Arnold Schwarzenegger sitting next to Nikki Glaser sitting next to a family therapist with music by Mannequin Pussy."

It's not yet been confirmed which stars will appear on the show, however, with both Netflix and Mulaney remaining tight-lipped.

This isn't Netflix's first venture into live TV; the streamer has experimented with live sports streaming since 2023, rapidly building up its offerings to cover some of the biggest events of the past few years.

Back in January, it launched WWE Raw, live from the Intuit Dome in Los Angeles, hosting some of WWE's biggest names, including The Rock, John Cena, Cody Rhodes and a controversial appearance from Hulk Hogan which saw him booed off stage.

Responding to the news of Mulaney's new talk show on social media, opinions were divided.

Taking to X, formerly Twitter, one fan said: "John is the best to do this! Can’t wait," as a second agreed: "Oh I’ll be watching".

A third chipped in: "Can't wait to have John Mulaney with his little outfit on my screen again."

Not everyone was so enthusiastic about the idea though, as one person asked: "First ever sit down celeb talk show? Isn’t this just a Netflix version of all the late night shows?"

A second agreed: "I don't think this is the first ever celebrity sit down talk show."

However a third reasoned: "As someone who misses the golden age of the late night talk show, I’m hopeful."

Everybody’s Live with John Mulaney debuts on Wednesday March 12 at 7pm PT/ 10pm ET. The show will run for 12 weeks, taking us through to June 4.
