Netflix viewers 'unsubscribing' after being told one of best crime series of all time is leaving in major shake-up

People aren't very happy...

Netflix customers are threatening to unsubscribe over the platform removing a popular crime series next month.

Sadly, it happens - you settle down to re-watch your favorite TV series or movie that you've seen pop up on the streamer a million times.

But alas, it's disappeared. Netflix removes dozens of titles each month, usually due to licensing deals expiring.

And now it's the turn of Dexter to leave the streaming giant. All eight seasons of the show - which originally aired on Showtime - will be removed in June.

And while that's got subscribers riled up, it's not all bad news for fans of the series.

The hit crime drama - which debuted in 2006, believe it or not - follows titular character Dexter Morgan (Michael C. Hall), a seemingly ordinary blood-splatter analyst for the Miami police department.

But come night, he is a serial killer whose only target is murderers who've escaped justice.

All eight seasons - that's 96 episodes - of the original Dexter series are scheduled to be removed from Netflix US on June 19, 2025.

It comes as Paramount releases a long-awaited sequel titled Dexter: Resurrection.

Set to premiere on July 11, 2025, it picks up weeks after the events of Dexter: New Blood, which first aired in 2021 - and was also manned by Paramount.

Then you also have its prequel series, Dexter: Original Sin, which premiered on December 13, 2024 on Paramount+.

Set in 1991 Miami, it explores the protagonist's early years as he grapples with his emerging murderous urges.

A tad confusing, right? But good news for Dexter fans all the same; all the series will now be available to watch over on Paramount+.

Still, it's safe to say some subscribers didn't take its Netflix departure all too well.

Venting their anger to X, formerly Twitter, one person wrote: "F**k you @Netflix, I'm unsubscribing," as a second echoed: "Netflix getting rid of Dexter??? Yea y’all can get outta my bills now."

But as another fan pointed out, with a new season on the horizon: "I’m sure it wasn’t Netflix’s decision."

The original Dexter boasts as a strong 71 percent Rotten Tomatoes score, with fans and critics alike praising the show's clever writing and blend of crime and psychological drama.

Its highest-scoring season was season two, while it's final three seasons didn't go down so well with fans.

Still, it's considered among the best crime dramas by many die-hard fans.

Dexter is available to stream on Netflix until June 19.
