Cameron Diaz is Back in Action starring in an upcoming Netflix action movie alongside Jamie Foxx.

Cameron Diaz began working alongside Jamie Foxx on the Netflix action comedy in 2022 - around a decade since her last film was released.

Diaz last starred in 2014 musical release Annie, similarly alongside Foxx. The movie began shooting in 2013 and was released the following year, with Diaz reported as beginning work on Back in Action in 2022, with the film landing on Netflix later this week.

The upcoming release subsequently marks nine years since Diaz was actively working on a set and 11 years of viewers not seeing her on the big screen.

And what a return the 52-year-old is making, returning for an action comedy alongside Foxx aptly titled Back in Action no less.

The film sees Diaz take on the role of Emily and Foxx the role of Matt - a couple of elite spies who vanished from the CIA 15 years ago who decide to live a normal life and start a family. But how long will their cover last and what will happen to their family when it gets broken?

While Diaz is obviously not an undercover CIA agent, the parallels between her and her character Emily are stronger than you may think.

She took a similarly extended break but from the acting world - speaking to Variety about feeling like she 'had to do [something] to reclaim [her] own life'.

Actively working in the industry for over 20 years, Diaz needed a break and when she resolved to take a breather from her career, she reflects she 'just really didn't care about anything else'.

Diaz continued: "Nobody’s opinion, nobody’s success, no one’s offer, no one’s anything could change my mind about my decision of taking care of myself and building the life that I really wanted to have.

"It really comes to: What are you passionate about? For me, it was to build my family."

However, fans are very much thrilled by the news Diaz is back on our screens, flocking to the trailer Netflix shared earlier today (January 14) to weigh in on the upcoming release.

One YouTube user wrote: "I'm so happy to see Cameron Diaz."

"Welcome back Cameron Diaz," another added.

A third commented: "Damn! She’s back! I’ve missed Cameron Diaz!"

"So Cameron Diaz back to acting after 10 years and the movie called Back In Action? Got it," a fourth wrote.

And a fifth resolved: "Cameron Diaz after a long time."
