Netflix is reportedly set to reboot The Chronicles of Narnia, with Barbie director Greta Gerwig directing two films.

Gerwig's latest directorial work with the much-anticipated Warner Bros. Barbie flick is set to hit the silver screen later this month (21 July).

The 39-year-old already has an impressive filmography under the belt with her break-out success of Lady Bird, which went on to rake in an impressive five Oscar nominations, including best director and best screenplay, alongside Louisa May Alcott’s Little Women all before hopping on one of the most talked-about movies of the year with the Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling-fronted Barbie.

And it seems like Gerwig is already keen to start up her next big project after reports that she is now attached to direct a feature film version of The Chronicles of Narnia books for Netflix, sources tell The Hollywood Reporter.

The Chronicles of Narnia is a series of seven high fantasy novels penned by British author C. S. Lewis.

The hit novel series featuring the beloved characters of Aslan and Mr Tumnus has since been adapted for radio, television, the stage, film and video games with the latest reboot set to hit the streaming giant.

According to the New Yorker, the Barbie director already has a deal to direct two films in the Narnia franchise.

The outlet reports: "There would be other adaptations in her future - she has a deal with Netflix to write and direct at least two films based on C. S. Lewis’s The Chronicles of Narnia."

However, no official announcement has yet been made on the matter.

The reports have since sent fans of Gerwig into a complete frenzy with many taking to social media to share their reactions to the possibility.

One Twitter user penned: "Going from Barbie then announcing she's going to be writing AND directing two Narnia films ... it's truly Greta Gerwig's world we’re just living in it."

A second posted: "She’s here for my childhood moments and I'm thankful for every second of it."

And a final Twitter user added: "I would honestly watch anything if Greta Gerwig is the director."

It was a few years back in 2018 when Netflix first announced the exciting news that it had finally acquired the film and TV rights to the iconic book series.

"Families have fallen in love with characters like Aslan and the entire world of Narnia, and we’re thrilled to be their home for years to come," said Managing Director of Netflix, Ted Sarandos, at the time of the reveal.
