Late singer and actor Meat Loaf expressed sympathy for 'women with large breasts' after being faced with a challenging costume in Fight Club.

Meat Loaf, who passed away on January 20 at the age of 74, appeared alongside Brad Pitt in the iconic 1999 drama in which he played the character of Bob.

The film earned the award for Best Motion Picture at the Awards Circuit Community Awards and secured Meat Loaf a nomination alongside his castmates for Best Cast Ensemble, but the singer revealed years later that it didn't come without some gruelling work.

Speaking to Q Magazine, per Stuff.co.nz, Meat Loaf recalled having to wear a fat suit for the role of Bob; a big character in both height and circumference.

Fans of the film will know that the character held a lot of weight around his chest, and in having to spend hours in costume while filming Meat Loaf felt he began to realise what it is like for women who do the same.

He said: 'Those things were made of flaxseed, and weighed 28 pounds. Now when I see women with large breasts I feel sorry for them.'

According to YardBarker, Meat Loaf's costume consisted of both a '90-pound fat harness' and shoes with eight-inch lifts, which came in a bid to allow him to tower over the character played by Edward Norton.

Though the costume doesn't sound like a pleasant one to have to wear for days on end, Meat Loaf made clear he was committed to the role as he threw himself into his scenes.

He told Q: 'The character was supposed to be 26 years old and I was close to 50 when I made that movie. [The director, David] Fincher does a lot of takes, and after the 40th take Fincher said, 'Can you do this run or do we need to put a stunt man in?' But I refused to let him use a stuntman. I did the run.'

Following the news of Meat Loaf's death this week, many fans have taken to social media to pay tribute to the singer and remember his performance in Fight Club.

One fan wrote: 'Rest in peace Meatloaf [sic]. Your performance as Robert Paulsen in Fight Club will always put a smile on my face.'

Another commented: 'Going to rewatch Fight Club today in honour of Meat Loaf. RIP.'

A cause of death has not been announced, though a statement about his death assured he was surrounded by loved ones at the time.
