With The Mandalorian having proved a smash hit for Lucasfilm and Disney, and The Book Of Boba Fett giving a grander look at the exploits of the fan-favourite bounty hunter; it’s safe to say that an episodic approach to the franchise’s most beloved characters is paying dividends for the house of mouse.

At the Star Wars Celebration currently ongoing in Anaheim, California, thousands of fans were treated to the first trailer of the next Disney+ series to hit the silver screen - Star Wars: Andor.

Series creator Tony Gilroy took to the stage alongside Cassian Andor actor Diego Luna, where they stated that there will be 12 episodes initially, that take place five years before the events of Rogue One. Another 12 are also planned that will advance the story of Star Wars: Andor right up to the opening of the movie.

Check out the new trailer below.

As you can see in the trailer, we’re introduced to a lot of new characters. The overall vibe certainly evoked that of Rogue One, as well as the EA video game Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order. It looks like it’ll chart, not just the story of Andor, but of the Rebel uprising during the time period.

Fans of Star Wars will be immediately familiar with Cassian Andor, but for those who need a little help with their lore (no judgment, there’s a lot of it) allow me to help fill you in.

First appearing in Rogue One, Cassian Andor was a spy and an assassin working for the Rebel Alliance leading up to the destruction of the first Death Star. It was he, alongside Jyn Erso and their comrades of Rogue One, who managed to transfer the plans for the space station to the Rebels before being unceremoniously obliterated by it. Big oof.

Creator Tony Gilroy, whose notable works includes the Bourne series, Armageddon and Rogue One, has plenty of experience working in and around thrillers so you’d hope he’s quite familiar with the character and his antics enough to do him justice.

Star Wars: Andor was first announced in 2018, and will also star Stellan Skarsgård (Good Will Hunting) as a rebel leader, Adria Arjona (Morbius), Fiona Shaw (Harry Potter franchise), Denise Gough, Kyle Soller, and Genevieve O'Reilly who will be reprising her role as Mon Mothma from Rogue One.

Star Wars: Andor will be coming August 31st to Disney+, with two episodes.
